Slow Motion After Stall

Has anyone experienced a stall for the first time post op and then begin to lose weight at a slow pace? In afraid that my sleeve may have ran its course early in the race. I was sleeved on March 21st and I've only lost 43 pounds. I feel I should've lost more by now. Shouldn't I be losing at least 5 pounds per week? I don't eat a lot and I'm trying to get as much liquid as possible. Anyone have any suggestions or advice? PLEASE!!

Whoa. I think you'd be wise to manage your expectations.

You've lost 43 lbs in less than two months. That's amazing progress. I've lost 24 in ten weeks and I'm thrilled with it.

Why would you think you should be losing 5 lbs. a week? How much are you supposed to be eating according to your surgeon at this point? My surgeon wants me at 900-1100 and it's hard to get in that much. I know that I stall out eating too little.

If you're hitting your Protein and Fluid targets and you've lost 43 lbs, I'd say you're doing great!

Let's put it into perspective. I lost 53 pounds in 6 months. Now look at my pictures in my profile. It all came off eventually. Now I'm maintaining my 90 some pound loss, and it doesn't matter one bit how long it took me. It's not a 'how fast can we lose weight' contest.

You're doing great. Keep it up.

I was sleeved a week before you and I'm down 29 lbs. This is actually quite fast for me, and even faster for you. Losing weight takes patience. You will not consistently lose like wildfire. Weightloss slows down. The less you need to lose, the slower you will lose it, so expect to lose less and less each month. Remember, this isn't a race, this is forever. You'll get there..in time. Just relax, live your life, stay on track, and let it happen.

Up your activity and get in all your Protein every day.

Stay hydrated and move, move, move.

Don't embrace stalls nor fret over them.

Just do what you are supposed to do and don't worry about a thing. The weight will come off.

I've had to actually tighten my belt by two more holes during a three week period where the scale didn't move a bit....actually it went up a pound. I can't explain it, but things were taking place in my body that were positive....just not showing up on the scale.< /p>

If you can.....start some weight training in the gym. Be smart about it and get some proper instruction. No injuries. Weight training will up your metabolism and you'll benefit tremendously from that.

Get your Protein in every day, stay hydrated and move, move, move !!!!!!

Yes I did but it's the norm. I was at 258 for two weeks. Now I'm 248. You will still loose weight but at a slower rate. Crank those exercises up a little. Like everyone said continue to hit Protein and Water goals. You got this!!!!

@@darima77 That's a great loss! There's no way your sleeve has ran it's course. You need to follow your Program - and the weight will come off. Don't eat less - your body needs you to get all of your Protein and at least 64ozs of water/fluids. Think about how long it would have taken to lose ONLY 43lbs before surgery. You should be doing cartwheels! Congrats - keep it up!

never fear, your sleeve will always work

you can't help but lose weight with it's assistance

UNLESS - you "trick" your sleeve, and yourself

eating couple of hours after meal when your new stomach is empty

doing this ALL day will add calories causing you to gain weight

the sleeve hasn't done YOU wrong - it's the opposite

work with the sleeve and it wlll work with/for you!!

don't be afraid, be careful

eat, drink with the plan

follow all the rules

you and your sleeve will be a happy couple :rolleyes:

43 lbs down is wonderful!!!

Should is not a great word to use related to weight loss.

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. We all experience slow downs and stalls.

What you "should" do is:

Make sure you are getting in enough Protein and Water and following your program.

What is your Protein target? Are you getting at least that amount of protein every day?

Are you drinking AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid a day.

I don't know what your beginning weight was but for me, my doctor said 8-10 pounds a month would be more normal at this point. so unless you are super heavy 5 pounds a week would be stretching it. other than that you've gotten good advice here - try to enjoy the ride!

@@Dub I think it is going to be your job to remind us to be smart and avoid injuries now. I appreciate all the helpful advice you post to the board. You and some of the other guys have me seriously considering joining a gym.

TO ALL OF YOU WHO RESPONDED TO MY POST, THANK YOU! This really helped me. I was getting so upset that I wasn't losing enough. I read each of your responses diligently and I took all advice into consideration. I'm not giving up. I'll continue to find ways to eat and drink better in order to have better results.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
