There was no "coping".....you just do what you have to do. If you find a good bariatric center with a good coordinator they do a lot of the work for you. I never had to call and make one appointment, she did everything for me. She made all my appointments and then emailed the schedule to me....all I had to do is show up!.....The "coping" is needed for all the WAITING!!! For most this is a long process. Use the time to educate yourself and learn as much about the surgery and life after surgery as you can. I was lucky and my insurance didn't require a 6 month supervised diet so I didn't haven't to wait near as long as most. I had my initial consult on March 15th and my surgery is scheduled for Monday May 16th. Good luck to you!!!

The appointments are annoying to some people. I didn't mind them. They are just assignments that need to be completed before you get to the prize, which is surgery and ultimately a better quality of life.

Compared to the amount of medical appointments and tests I've had this year for all of my ailments - this process is easy and I'm getting alot out of the NUT and Psych appointments.

I guess it depends on your frustration. I know people think it is a waste of time, but I thought of every appointment competed as an accomplishment. If I didn't get anything else done that day, I at least got the test, report, consultation I needed to make sure I was healthy enough for surgery and for insurance coverage. The waiting was the worst part for me. I just wanted the surgery to be done and over. I mean, you don't have to like the appointments. It is perfectly acceptable to be annoyed by them or seeing a doctor or waiting forever to see the doc, and it can all get kind of repetitive l, but it helps to just accept them as a necessary step. They are important. The are ultimately beneficial, and a lot of potential health issues are discovered during pre op doctors appointments. I thought my stomach was pretty normal. I had no complaints, but my endo found some irritation that was really helped by an rx to a PPI. I used to get occasional stomach upset that I thought was normal, turns out it wasn't. It is all a step in the right direction, and you should get to a point you are basically done with the pre op appointments.

Get a calendar and use it.

Write EVERYTHING down. If you are like me don't rely on just your memory.

Keep a binder or notebook with all of the paperwork, etc.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, and keep asking until you understand.

It takes patience, polite persistence, perseverance, and most of all positivity.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
