What happened when u dont get enough Protein

Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

Our body does not store Protein (like it does with fat and carbs). If we do not consume sufficient protein, we will not have enough for basic bodily functions and the body will consume its own protein (muscle), which can lead to loss of muscle mass, loss of hair, slow or no healing, heart problems, etc.

We NEED protein for healing and weight loss.

That's a great loss so far! You should add some vegetables, more Protein, and should have carbs at least in your shake. Carbs help our brain function and we do need some of them. Great job!

Talk to your surgeon and nutritionist. You are not giving us enough information to be of any help.

Is this all you're eating? Find out what amount of Protein you should be getting at this stage and track your Protein, carbs and calories. You also need to get in your Water (at least 64ozs).

Hello. My surgery date was April 11th. I am in my sixth week right now. You must make sure and eat enough Protein. My nut says three meals a day supplemented by two to three Snacks per day in between meals. Weight loss at this point is slow but gradual. I don't eat much carbs at this point. I am able to eat what I want but I have not added starches to my diet. Good luck with everything. Stay positive.

@@hova1980 I'm wondering if you have an in person support system surrounding you? Maybe you could ask them to help you with meal planning in an effort to get your nutrition headed in the right direction.

I agree.

I suggest that you make an appointment with your NUT to talk about your concerns.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
