BMI of ~50, considered and had the VSG. Never regretted it.

I try to think of "obese" as a foreign word which translates to "having class and distinction" -or at least I tried to tell myself that. :)

I started with a BMI of 60. I had the Sleeve 10 months ago, and life is awesome now.

I am in the losing weight before I get a date phase. My BMI is over 60 and I wanted to sleeve. My Dr suggested I consider the bypass as he said it will be better for me in the long run. I still am weighing out the differences. I get confused and I know dumping comes with the bypass and more. Also I know you cannot take Moltrin. Im confused. I have 30 lbs to lose before I get my date. Let me know If you want to chat.

FYI, anyone with a BMI of 40 or higher is "morbidly obese."

In my case, at 5'5", that was 240 pounds.

And since insurance doesn't pay for WLS for anyone under a BMI of 40 (unless they have a BMI of 35 and 3 comorbidities), most people here who've been sleeved were morbidly obese before WLS.

BMI of 58 when I started the pre-op process.

Now it's 36, 7 months postop. 180+ lbs lighter now with much more to go.

Feeling great.

This applies to many on this site.

I was high weight of 421, surgery weight 385, current weight 245 and I'm not done yet!

You can do this!

This is pretty much a requirement for this surgery.......with a few exceptions

Yes. I was super morbidly off-the-charts obese. I was sleeved April 20, 2015 and couldn't be happier with my choice.

I fall into this category. I met the WLS about one month ago and he suggested that I lose at least 50 lbs before we set a date. I have met with the dietician and am now on track to losing pre-surgery weight. My BMI is 61 and I feel horrible most of the time...so figured that it can only get better from now forward. I live in a tiny rural town in NW Kansas and have to travel 90 miles one way to see Dr, Nut...etc. Good luck to everyone out there!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
