Well I completed all my requirements, 3 month diet, clearances, psy evaluation and got my insurance approval and surgery is scheduled june 3rd...the problem is my surgeon wants me smoke free for 60 days before surgery...My last cigarette was april 15...I do not know if they have ways to tell or not...I told them I was smoke free as of march 31st...Is there a way they can tell exactly how long its been?

They can do a nicotine test. But that test will only show nicotine in your blood for the last 12 weeks

If your surgery is June 3rd and you have truly not smoked since April 15 you will pass the test. BUT this is not to be trifled with as your lungs need to be tip top before during and after the surgery. Otherwise complications (including pneumonia and repiratory failure) can ensue so please stay smoke free and you should even steer clear of the second hand stuff.

I had said I quit as well and then they told me about the nicotine test. I quit July 7 2015 cold turkey and haven't smoked since. I did buy a Cotinine test on Amazon and it showed positive for about 3.5 weeks after my last smoke. I still have a bunch left. Send me a message with our address if u want me mail them to ya. I will say that I think the quitting smoking was the best thing I did followed by the weight loss surgery.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
