When did you start losing weight post op?

Recommended Posts

My Dr said not to step on the scale for a few days because of all the fluids I was given. I'm 2.5 days past surgery and am anxious to see the numbers go down! How much had you lost by your 2 week check up? My Dr estimates I'll lose up to 20lbs

I highly recommend you stay off the scale. Early out I only weighed at my doctors appointments. I don't remember how much I lost by my first follow-up, but I do remember being very happy.

The first time I stepped on the scale at 11 days postop I weighed exactly the same as surgery day. I didn't weigh again until 6 weeks out and I was 17 pounds down.

It's a journey not a contest. Be patient with yourself. Follow the post op instructions. I have to remind myself over and over. You will be successful.

I lost weight every single day for several weeks post op. Many people actually gain "weight" after their hospital stay. But it is literally "water weight". They pump you full of fluids before you go home to try to prevent dehydration because many of us have SO much trouble getting all our fluids in the first few days. In 99% of the time I say follow Drs advice it is for a reason. That is probably the reason. You definitely want to weigh at least once a week. By the time you are a week out much of that extra Fluid should have come off. I weighed every morning for weeks or possibly months on end, and it was a really fun ride. I'm 9 months out and only losing 1-2 lbs per week now, but very happy with the resultS[emoji4]

I am 17 pounds down at 2weeks 2 days the first day of surgery they weigh you and I was 10 pounds up! I was so mad! But I was told it was the fluids and such he also told me that if you did not eat a lot of salt in your diet which I never have you will weigh more and lose less at first. I got back to normal weight in two days and then only lost 2 pounds ugh next weigh in I lost 13 and then back to 2. Total of 17 since my surgery.

I lost nothing the first week. On day 7 post op I was finally back to the weight of the day of my surgery. I am now 18 days post op and down 30 pounds from the start of my 2 week pre op diet and 18 pounds since surgery. I tend to hold Fluid and have not been on my Lasix since surgery so it's likely due to all of the IV fluids.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
