Psychological evaluation

Recommended Posts

Hey guys tomorrow is my appointment with the psychologists and I'm nervous that I'm gonna say something to mess up and they will not give me the green light , this whole process is emotionally draining the insurance doesn't even require this but the doctor and hospital need it . Anyways any advice pointers on what to expect ? Thank you

Relax, talk honestly, and easily and what will be will be.

If there was a best time NOT to prepare for a conversation, it is before your psych. eval.

Just be yourself.

You'll be much better off if you just --be yourself.

Prayers going up for you.

In my program, the psych is checking for things that you may need help with before surgery. Not trying to exclude you, but checking to see if there is any extra help you need to prepare you and make sure you are ready for this commitment. If you have trouble with emotional eating, there are classes. Eating disorders? She'll refer you to someone to help you work through your issues before clearing you.

They want to see that you understand the life changes that need to happen to be successful, that you understand what will be happening with your body. That you have a good support structure, and good coping mechanisms for stress. And that any psych issues you have are being treated. (I take meds for depression for example).

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
