I had my surgery done by Dr Oldham! I'm two weeks post op today. He's really an amazing surgeon and the whole office is awesome too. Don't hesitate to reach out and ask me anything, I'll help with anything I can.

What was your recovery like post op? How long were you in the hospital and how did you feel?

I'm getting the sleeve on Sept 9 with Dr Oldham!!

Hey Megan! Dr Oldham is awesome, congrats on getting your date for surgery! I was in the hospital for one night after surgery. I also had a hiatal hernia repair during surgery so I think my pain was slightly more. But it wasn't unbearable. It was more discomfort from the gas and not being able to sit up on my own comfortably for the first few days or so. The biggest thing I struggled with was getting in my liquids, stay on top of that! You don't want to get dehydrated. I'm sure you've read on here you go through phases during the first month or so post op. You'll wonder what the heck you did to yourself probably! But it'll pass and make you stronger. It's all worth it :) Don't worry, there's so much support in these groups and on Facebook and IG. Don't hesitate to reach out to me either! Good luck :)

Thanks. Just now seen this. I haven't been on for a while. I have been living in chaos recently. I got for my 5-7 hour visit on August 9th. My insurance doesn't require any diets so I will be in what his office calls a fast track. I work with a girl who seen him as well. Her first visit was June 5th and now her surgery is scheduled for August 8th. So I know soon after my visit I will be getting a surgery date. I met Dr Oldham at the seminar and couldn't believe how informative he was and how patient he was to answer the same repeated questions over and over. I have been highly recommended to him and have done my research so I am confident I have made the right surgeon choice.

Did you get sleeved Deeann? And yes I will probably flood you with questions once my pre op diet starts lol. I hope all is well now and will keep in touch.

they told me two wks, i have been doing the liquid diet since feb 21, and have had one little set back with that diet. i struggle with this, i think not only is it meant to prepare the body for the changes but also psychologically. it is very mind altering.

Hi, dr.oldham is my Dr too. I'm in the 4th month of my medical diet for 6 months. I also have to get a hiatal hernia repair. It's good to know that it won't be that worse or really painful. What month are you in post op?

Same dr. Here. Don't have a surgery date yet. 2 more months of my medical diet to go! Great to meet people so close. Is there anyway on here to add friends or do you just save the posts and get updates?

Hey ladies. Anyone down for maybe a local support group? I know the hospitals offer them and I will be going to them too but it would be nice to meet up with some local ladies going through this journey too!

I think that would be awesome. I actually just moved here in January for my husbands job. I don't know many people. I haven't gone to dr.oldhams meet up group but it is only once a month. I hope to see you guys there this month. My name is Jenn.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
