How long typically from insurance approval to surgery?

I was approved by insurance on 4/28/16 and am really hoping for a early to mid-May surgery.

The doctor at our last appointment said that I wouldn't have to do a pre-op diet.

The catch is I know I was approved because I have been following the submission so closely...however, the coordinator hasn't actually called to tell me that I have been approved. Oh and the coordinator is also the scheduler. So I have called last week to leave her a message and the doctor knew about my timeline back in February when I started. The Coordinator messed up the first submission and that delayed it all a week and now she isn't calling me back now that I have approval.

So how long out was scheduling for this that have approval?

Thanks :)

I was approved today, got notification from my Dr. Office and scheduled today. I had two dates offered the 19th or the 24th.

Mine was a quick turn around, but mostly because I was working closely with the coordinator due to an upcoming change in insurance. I needed my surgery to be done before the change over or else I wouldn't have been able to do it.

That said, most people in our program usually wait about 4 weeks from approval to surgery day.

It depends on how far out your surgeon is scheduled already, and the availability of the hospital OR and surgical team.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
