I attended a educational seminar on bariatric surgery first step on 4/21 I had my first appointment the following Monday which went great I weighed in at 220 I don't have to see a cardiologist or pulmonary I had labs that same day I go may 3rd to the nutritionist then on to psych and endoscopy things are moving quicker than I could ever imagine. Alot of people are against it saying I'm going to regret it just eat less exercise but I've been dealing with weight since adolescents anyone whose never had a weight problem will never understand

Mine is also moving a long very quickly. I think my first appointment was march 17th and surgery is May 4th. They put me into a speedier program. Not really sure why because others going to the same surgeon are going to way more classes than I am required to do. Some have literally waited YEARS to have the surgery done!

I'm also in the same boat as you with having some family against my decision or at least not encouraging it. My sister does not want me to have it done at all and keeps trying to talk me out of it. She is a nurse and keeps telling me the horror stories she's seen with other people that have had weight loss surgery. I'd be lying if I said her stories don't scare me but the truth is, I'm more scared of NOT having the surgery done. At least with the surgery, I'm taking a small risk but with my family history of diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure and cholesterol issues, I'm almost positive my chances of living to a ripe old age aren't very good if I don't have it done. My fiance and I had the conversation this morning about the same thing: "I think you could lose the weight with diet and exercise", but he is one of those people that can eat however much he wants and WHATEVER he wants and never gets fat. He is right that I would lose weight but if he would look back at all of my past attempts, he would see that I always gain it back and then some. Luckily my mom has been very supportive and glad that I am making a decision to better myself.

I think once they realize how life changing this will be they will understand that it was the best decision for you.

I agree. I told my mom the same thing! My fiance has been on me about getting healthy. Not because he cares how I look but he wants me to live longer and we have a son together. I think once he sees that I AM getting healthy, his worries will be put at ease. As far as my sister, even if I don't have any major issues, I have the feeling she may stick to her guns and point out every little thing that I do differently that is not "normal" and she may or may not ever understand but it's my life and my choice and I do feel this is the best decision for me.

Mine is also moving quickly! It did take a month to get my first appointment after the seminar, but I had that one yesterday and I meet the NUT & Psych on Monday. After that, I should get approval and a surgery date! I was prepared to wait for months and months and now I'm not quite sure how to handle this moving so quickly!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
