8 days out ! Cravings galore !

Recommended Posts

No, you do not "need pizza". Your head is telling you it does, but it lies.

Do you want to know what would happen if you actually tried to indulge that craving right now? first, you would probably only get down a bite, maybe two. Then it would hurt, like crazy. And then it would come back up.

You did not do all the hard work you did to have surgery to let your head derail you now. You just had surgery. Your body needs rest, fluids, liquid nourishment (to avoid stressing your very swollen and healing tummy), and some walking.

Honest, it doesn't "need" anything else. More than likely your head is trying to sell you on all the foods you know you can't even try for a while. Time for your rational side to tell your fanciful side to stop distracting you.

You can do this. Really.

@@dawnmac3903 - head hunger!!!!

you need water!

Don't listen the little pizza guy in your head...you will regret it if you do this early out. I gave in about a month out and ate about 2 bites of some thin curst pizza - didn't taste that great ( in my mind it was going to be wonderful) and I was over the urge. You are still pre-op and waayyyy to early to eat something like pizza.

go outside, clean, wash the dog....anything but eat pizza.

I am 9 days out and the cravings have kicked in 10 fold!! I truly did not realize how dependent I am on food to "feel better." This has been the biggest eye opener for me! Stay strong my friend. We got this!

Those experiencing cravings should understand that, tied with the beginning of pre-op, this is the toughest time. You are back from the hospital and fully recovered, and are still on a very low calorie diet because of what your brand new sleeve can handle. I assure you it will get better, even as soon as you can move onto full liquids (Soups, etc...). I have to tell you that even 9 months out, pizza doesn't really work, and even if you think it might, your sleeve will quickly tell you not to have more than a couple bites. 9 months down the road, you will probably be able to enjoy a whole slice with a knife and fork without the crust at the end. I am trying to be a little reassuring. The sleeve eventually lets you return to everything...except your previous weight. Whether it's pizza or celery, you will never be able to eat that much anymore.

I feel your pain. There was a miserable time in life during my early 20s when I consumed at least one large Dominos pie per day, crust and all. I am so thankful that it is gone, even more so than for the weight loss.

Need pizza!! Help!!!

I thought you don't feel hungry during the early stages of post op. I thought the hard part was the pre-op liquid diet and post op was a breeze since ur stomach is so small and u are not hungry. I really hope this is true

The head hunger is completely insane. I was watching commercials in my hotel room the day after surgery and every food commercial was like "I NEED THAT RIGHT NOW!" even though I knew that if I actually ate that, I would end up in the hospital. It's crazy. It takes a long time for your head to catch onto the fact that your stomach can't handle that stuff anymore. It was a real challenge for me all the way through probably month 4 or so? Then I *finally* started figuring out ways of dealing with emotions and cravings besides turning to food.< /p>

I'm six weeks out today and haven't had a moment of real hunger. Not one.

@@beylove you need to distinguish between head hunger (cravings) and true hunger. Head hunger is along the lines of: I need a pizza! or I want a cupcake! or I need something crunchy to eat! or that commercial is making me sooooo hungry!

True hunger is more like: I feel really hungry and I would be happy to eat a plate of unseasoned, dry chicken breast and steamed broccoli if you put it in front of me. That would be very satisfying.

Most people lose true hunger for a period of time after surgery. However, even with true hunger gone, you may need to fight head hunger. They are completely different things, although most of us are so used to indulging our head hunger that we don't even know what true hunger feels like.

As people are fond of saying on these forums, "we have surgery on our stomachs, not our brains." So much of what we think of as "hunger", is just cravings. Or acid... a lot of people on here think they are "hungry" post-op because their new stomachs are grumbling and growling. But that's just the churning of excess stomach acid or gas. My husband's doctor always said "if you're not hungry enough to eat an apple, you're not really hungry." If you are truly, physically hungry, healthy foods will satisfy that hunger. If you "need" junky foods, that's head hunger or cravings.

You don't get physical hunger - but you still get head hunger (emotional hunger).

@@beylove FYI I had absolutely zero hunger post op. I'm 8 months out and can get a bit hungry now and again but the first month post op I had to literally force myself to eat. I would get nauseous just from seeing a good commercial on tv. I was concentrating more on keeping my sips down than getting more food in. Believe me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
