9 days post op and I can already eat 4oz yogurt?

Recommended Posts

I'm a little worried that I'm 9 days post op and can already eat 4oz of Chobani. That seems like a lot. I was definitely full and satisfied when finished and couldn't have eaten more. Maybe I was able to eat that much because yogurt is like a slider food? No way I could eat 4oz of chicken, tuna, etc. It makes me worried that my sleeve is too big. Any experience with this?

Your surgeons team or NUT should have given you volume limits for now. That early out you should only probably have a quarter cup and stop there because your still swelled and healing inside and the nerves have not had time to heal to tell you that you are full in time.

1/2 cup is normal at this stage. Yogurt does have nutritional values so not much of a slider food. It helps with your Vitamins and Protein intake and also counts toward your liquid intake.

Relax.

Yogurt isn't a "slider food", it's semiliquid. Once it gets into your sleeve, it empties very quickly.

Different surgeons give different guidelines. Follow the instructions your surgeon gave you.

Don't go looking on the internet for this kind of thing, you have instructions from YOUR surgeon for YOU.

Many, many postop patients get frantic because they "feel no restriction" or similar while they're on the liquid stages. Then they advance to something more like real food and notice a big difference.

Have some more liquid. Take a walk, or a nap. Stay off the internet if you have to to avoid worrying.

You'll be fine. Really.

Yogurt especially Greek yogurt which is high Protein and has 5g sugar or less per serving is one of the very BEST things that you can eat. I was allowed to have yogurt in "full liquids" stage, so to your tummy it is very similar to a liquid. Keep doing what you are doing.

That sounds perfectly normal. For me, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese were both allowed on my full liquid phase and they function like liquids. Being satisfied on 4 oz of Greek yogurt is great. That is what we want to happen. It's a great source of Protein, too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
