Un-filling the band before revision surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I was wondering if Un-filling the band pre-surgery is necessary. I'm submitting all my papers to the insurance this week and I was wondering if I should request an unfill in order to prepare for the surgery. Right now my band has 5.5 cc of saline. How was your experience with your revision?

Thank you!

My band developed a leak way before sleeve surgery. I didn't know it at the time but I suspected something wrong. I was able to eat more than usual and put off seeing the doctor about it. Finally I went and the xray machine showed some serious problems. The band wouldn't expand with the injection into the port. It might be worth it to go and see if you can have it all removed. It would take some stress off of the band area.

I am in the process of having my band removed, and converted to the sleeve. I could never get enough Fluid to help me loose weight. Anytime I got over 3.5cc I vomit everything I eat, so I've had all Fluid removed and waiting on insurance approval.

Hi I'm having the band revision surgery on June 22nd to sleeve. My Doctor had the Fluid removed immediately so that May stomach could start to heel before the surgery.

Question is anyone or did anyone ever have the band removed and sleeve done in the same procedure. If so How did it go.

Thank you for your answer!

About your question, I talked to my doctor about having the lap band removal and revision at the same time and he said that he usually does the removal and sleeve in the same surgery. However, he told me that it depends of how much scar tissue you have around the band. If there is a lot of scar tissue, he will only do the removal and schedule the sleeve surgery for 6 weeks later.

I had my Fluid out 3 weeks before my revision so my stomach would go back a little more and because my surgeon wanted to do a endoscopy before my revision. Had it all done in one surgery and everything is great one month post op

My surgeon removed all the Fluid from my band about a month and a half before my revision to give my stomach some relief and healing before the surgery.

They forced me to have my band unfilled. It's been a few months now. They had me come in to un-fill it after I was approved for the revision. It is for my esophagus and stomach to return to normal before my revision. My lapband will be removed and sleeve done in one outpatient procedure. I haven't received my surgery date yet.

Unfortunately, during these months, some of my weight came back (18 of my 100 lb lost so far) and can't wait to get my surgery date so I won't gain too much more back.

Please wait to talk to your surgeon. I had my first meeting yesterday and am scheduled to have a EGD test and was told the band needs to be full until after the test. The band will be emptied after the test and before surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
