I am 1 week post op from my d.s. overall doing well staples came out yesterday down 27 total pounds since I began the preoperative diet. Having a tough time with not stretching and lifting I was feeling so good I tried to do housework and I'm back to day one. Also the Vitamins and Protein are gross and advice on a better tasting alternative sine we're chewable for life. Thanks in advance.

Glad to hear about your progress! Sorry though I don't have any suggestions on Vitamins as I am still pre-op. But I thought that chewables were only needed for the first few months? I recall in my manual that you can have capsules but any tablets need to be crushed or chewables. Maybe this is different than yours? Anyway, good luck finding something that works for you! And happy to see another DSer here

I'm still pre-op, but it was recommended at our orientation class that we use Flintstones chewable multi Vitamins with Iron 2x daily.

My nutritionist says the most important thing we need is niacin some of the ones I've looked at do not have that and also I read somewhere else that someone ended up back in the hospital because of Flintstone vit.

I had RNY gastric bypass surgery whereas you had gastric sleeve. I take a lot of Vitamins and will do so for the rest of my life. But only one of my Vitamins was a chewable. I was also told do not use the gummy vitamins. So you may want to check with your nutritionist before you make that change.

After surgery, I lost the ability to swallow anything medium to large, so most of my vitamins either had to be split or crushed in order to swallow them. After about 2 months this problem went away and I regained my ability to swallow.

From my perspective all Protein shakes taste terrible. But after surgery I had to take them because the Protein that I consumed from food was so minuscule that my body would be damaged if I didn't. Your protein daily requirement is met by a combination of the protein obtained from protein supplements combined with the protein from meals. As my meal volume increased (over the next 1 1/2 years), I was able to decrease my reliance on Protein Shakes because I concentrated on consuming high protein meals. I went from 3 Protein Shakes a day, down to 2, then down to 1 and finally none. The important point here is you don't have to like your protein supplement; you just have to tolerate it. I used Muscle Milk Light (vanilla Creme) blended with Water and added a half a banana to give it better flavor.

I actually had the duodenal switch which is why the chewable Vitamin for life statement. I was hoping someone knew of a tasty Protein Drink I'm at the point where I dread it. Have you tried the unflavored and added to crystal light? Just asking because the tubs aren't cheap and I currently have 4 taking up space in the kitchen that aren't palatable.

Hello to a new DSer.

First let me say I only took chewables for the first few months or so. After that it was 2 regular multis a day. (Of course, along with a whole lot of other vits and minerals).

Personally, I didn't care for powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. However, many do so it's probably worth trying.

Since I couldn't eat enough for the first 2 years, I drank one shake a day. I didn't love them but they were palatable. I used Muscle Milk and Myloplex. They came in 4 packs and were premade. So I never had to use powder or mix anything.

So how has the weight loss been with the d.s. long term I haven't ever talked to anyone who had it done a while ago?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
