Need support .. Tempted to cancel surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am totally freaking out! My surgery is one week away and i am so tempted to cancel.

I am really scared and nervous.

I am not new to WLS, i had the band for 6 years, had complications and had it removed 12 months ago, so i have been through this process before and have an idea of what to expect kind of.

I keep asking myself the following...

- Cant i just continue Optifast to loose weight.

- what will happen 20 years down the track.

- is it necessary since i am not that big and i hold my weight well

- why go through this and get loose skin when my body is not that flabby now.

- will this cause me to have no social life as eating is a form of social and cultural get togethers.

- my hair is already falling out.... will i be bald.

And so much more. Ive researched for months and still can't imagine how much I will be able to eat n drink.

Please help... i am seriously tempted to cancel my surgery as i am petrified that ill end up with complications that I had with my band 6 years out.

Did anyone else go through this so close to surgery?

Thanks myka99.

I appreciate your reply.

I am soing ok with the liquid diet, i guess from doing it last time i knew what to expect so i was much more prepared for it this time.

I just spring cleaned my house n garage for the first 3 days... that kept me busy and my mind of food...

Im glad to have met someone so close to my surgery date.

Whats your story?

you're totally normal.

but here is the bald faced truth. what will happen in 20 years is that most likely you will weigh MORE than your highest weight ever.

most likely any comorbidities you have will be worse, and some you don't have you probably will.

I had to weigh the (VERY REAL) risks of my obesity vs the risks of surgery.

you will not be eating that differently once you get to maintenance.

However, this is not a magic pill. it is a complete (for the rest of your life) change. if you aren't ready, you aren't ready.

Thanks Christinamo7...

I know that without this surgery that i will not be able to control my weight.

Since i had the band removed 12m ago.. ive gained most back.. even with eating well and being active.

I know ill probably be a slow loser and im ok with that.. as long as im losing.

Funny i was ready.... then bam.. last two days my mind has gone into overdrive.. guess reality has set in... that this time next week ill be post op

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
