I'm 16 days away from surgery. I have 6 days until I start my liquid diet and I'm currently experiencing every doubt you can experience.

I know this surgery is going to change my life and give me opportunities I wouldn't have at my current size. I know everything is going to be 100% worth it and I believe I'm going to succeed. I lost 20 lbs in 3 months for the pre-op diet, got approved on my first try, and everything has been falling into place.

How did you all deal with the pre-surgery nerves and how did you get that little voice in your head to shut up?

every time that voice piped up I just said, well dear, I;m going to do it anyway. and I kept busy preparing for after surgery. I made bone broth, and froze little containers of food that I could have later on. Now I am reaping the benefits of having things in my size serving of chili and such.

That preop period was tough!

When I came close to backing out, I was told by my PCP that the wife of one of the bariatric surgeons in my area had had the sleeve surgery and that she thought it was the best decision she has ever made.

When she told me that, I knew that if that surgeon felt confident enough for his wife to have the surgery, I had nothing to worry about.

Good luck!

Fortunately my jitters weren't too bad, but I would just think that, sure, there are risks and downsides of this surgery, but there are also risks and downsides of being fat, and the surgery is actually the safer path in the long run. I had done my homework and just needed to focus on the positive, not what *might* go wrong but was unlikely.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
