HI everyone! I have just joined and glad to have found this site. I was banded 12/27/04. I choose the lap band due to being the more safer route and my cousin had it done and was doing great. I have dieted all my life. I had a long list for the doctor when I started all the paperwork for the beginning stages. I did pretty good the first year. December 20, 2004 I was down 88lbs. Then BAM slippage occured after being extremely sick with lots of vomitting going on. Dr. took out all saline to let the band rest and slip back in place...it worked but I was unfilled for a month due to his schedule and the holidays. I gained 17lbs right off the bat. I still stuck to all rules with some cheating of course. Then back on track in February. Done OK since that point no big weight loss more gain than anything. June 2006 due to food poisoning and we wanted to play it safe. February - June no weight loss or gain at this point. February 2007 had to take out one fill he put in due to me getting sick and being highly dehydrated. From February to this day I have gained 20lbs. I have followed the rules. He has me at 1200 calories a day and most of the time I eat way less due to restriction and being full. I exercise, I follow the rules and NOTHING is working. I am frustrated with myself and with the band. My dr is pretty much out of reach two weeks out of the month due to he is in town one week and out the next so you have to pick and choose the times he is available.

I know we aren't suppose to compare ourselves to others but a lady I work with I talked her into having the band. She is one year post-op and looks amazing. She doesn't eat what she is suppose to, she still drinks her sodas and eats her bread. She doesn't exercise and the pounds are coming off like crazy. That's upsetting to me as well.

I just need some suggestions! I do not want to fail the band. I had to get more healthier. I am healthier than I started out but not were I want to be by a land slide. :help:

I am not saying I have been perfect on sticking to the 1200 calories a day. I do use fitday.com and track it everyday. I do see the variances in it. I try to stay away from liquid calories due to I had noticed those were sneaking in before when I was on a plateau. Water is my friend. I just feel like I am stuck and it just seems like I am getting know were.

Jacks

Maybe you need to find a different exercise routine. Sometimes our bodies get used to a routine and it doesn't work as well. I think interval training is good but may alternate between running, biking, elipital, stairstepping..whatever.

They tell me it is all simple physics...expend more calories than you take in.

Good luck

sometimes you don't lose if you're taking in less calories then your body needs. Nothing melts off because it's trying to hold on to what it has. I would really reevaluate the whole picture. What you do, what you eat and make changes. Are you eating a lot of carbs in your 1400 calories? I eat protien first, then veggies and a little bit of carbs if I have room left. I have PCOS so staying away from carbs is huge for me. If I count calories and I'm having a lot of carbs I won't lose compared to if I'm eating a lot of protien in the same calorie range.

Good luck!

I also have PCOS and you know I never thought maybe that would be effecting anything. I think my big problem is my doctor isn't accessible at all times. I NEVER met with a nutritionist. I didn't go through some steps most people do. Surprisingly!

thanks for the input everyone!

From all that I have read on this site PCOS can really complicate weight loss. By using the search option on the bar at the top of this page and typing in PCOS you will be able to call up all the past threads which discuss the problems which individuals with PCOS can run into.

You mentioned not even getting 1200 some days, which can cause your body to go into starvation mode and hold onto all the calories it can get. If you're having a bad plateau, maybe try making sure you get the 1200 :tea:

Good luck and thanks for sharing your experience thus far!!

I have had my ups and downs. I have lupus, and my weight is a bit contingent on what meds I'm on. If I'm on prednisone, I just have to wait it out until I get off it and can start losing again. With your illnesses, are there any meds issues with your weight?

I was banded last September and until recently I have had no problems. Though my weight loss was slower than some - I started at a lower BMI (which also has its difficulties as we are slower to lose) and I am an older bandster - I reached my goal weight and BMI in less than a calendar year. My current BMI is 23.8 and I weigh 147.5. I know this because I requested a completed defill this afternoon. It was about 2.5 months ago that I started to suffer from acid reflux. Because I have never, ever had any problems with my digestive tract it took me and my doctor quite awhile to figure this out. It took even longer for her to place me on a regime of prescription meds and for these to fail to make a dent in my symptoms before I figured that maybe I should shoot for a temporary defill.

As of today I am defilled, on antibiotics, and still staying the course with the prescribed antacid stuff. I hope this works.

I am pre-op but I have pcos as well.

Losing weight is really hard.

Now that you mention it everytime I consume carbs it's like I can feel the weight gain.

Carbs and me don't mix all.

I hope the lapband helps me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
