I always found that Quest bars were good. They come with a lot of different varieties, have good Protein, low on sugar and high in Fiber. The Fiber was important because sometimes post surgery, Constipation can set in and the fiber helps.

I like Premier Protein chocolate shakes and bars. The bars may have too much fat or sugar for your guidelines shortly after surgery, so watch for that.

My surgery date is scheduled for 4/25 and I just started my liver shrink diet yesterday. I like the Syntrax Protein Powder in vanilla torte and Cappuccino best so far. Make with Carbmaster or Fairlife milk to get an extra 10-ish grams of Protein. Not sure where you are, but Kroger brand Protein Bars (esp Peanut Butter flavor) taste great, Balance bar (esp caramel nut blast), and Quest bars taste okay (but are expensive). Like you, I get one small meal a day (3oz lean meat, 6 unsalted crackers, steamed veggie or small salad with nonfat dressing). I'm getting around 900-1100 calories a day and 90-ish grams of protein this way. Good luck on your surgery and the next couple of weeks as you shrink!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
