Anyone in a similar position please ?

Hi everyone

I am 5.3ft and weigh 14.5 , BMI 36.

I suffer with osteoporosis in my spine, sciatica in my legs and asthma.

I have been told by my doctor that he believes I have ultra sensitive airways. There fore I am forever catching one thing or other and end up taking steroids which battles with my weight fluctuation. This I believe puts pressure on my back and legs. I am suffering from depression at the moment as this is a constant battle with my weight. I never want to leave the house as I don't have clothes to fit or feel good about myself ????.

But I am afraid of the risks of surgery and the drastic change in my lifestyle but would love to be able to wear my real clothes again and not just something to cover my frumpy body.

Please can anyone advise me.

I am looking to pay for it myself in Europe. Looking at Brussels or Prague ?

Hope you don't mind me bombarding you ?

Many thanks Oasis

Getting this surgery is not just a solution to appearance ...

It's the solution to most health problems that us overweight people face.

If it's depression from emotional issues ... or it's diabetes or heart issues ... there are SO many that being heavy can cause ...

The surgery is NOT the answer and will NOT lose all the weight for you ... it's not a magic wand or a light switch ...

BUT it IS an amazing TOOL to assist you in your journey of bettering yourself and becoming a healthier more functioning person ...

I too was hesitant about the surgery ... and didn't know if I would be able to give up the things that I depended on to get me through the day and the struggles that I had health wise ...

I didn't know if I'd be able to give up the sugar or the candy or the junk food / fast food and make it an hour without something in my mouth ...

But ya know what? I DID !!!! 9 months and 145 lbs GONE !!!!

This IS by far the BEST thing I've EVER done for myself ...

You are the only one who can make this decision ...

But ... once the decision is made ... the surgery is done ... and you're on the road to feeling SO MUCH better about EVERYTHING ...

It'll be THE BEST one you ever made :)

Good Luck !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
