Weird s**t your body does (or "I know I ate too much, I need to sneeze.."

Recommended Posts

I thought it was my allergies kicking back up and then I read about a year after my surgery that others do that too. I'll go into sneezing fits and deal with a runny nose. Irritating to say the least

I love it! I can pretend my tummy isn't full but I can't ignore my dripping nose! Clearly self control wasn't a strength for me pre-op. Having a big flashing red light (or in this case, a big dripping red nose) can't be denied.

I'm so glad you started this topic. I finally figured out the sneezing was after I ate. watery eyes, sniffling, the whole thing.

Thought it was allergies. Haven't read all the posts yet. But thanks.

I have a weird hiccup-burp thing I do when my stomach is full. It's a combo of them both at the same time.

If I eat sushi--with a little rice, I am prone to a drippy nose and a bunch of sneezes. Sometimes, I have to lay down.

@@Elode - that's a very good description. I call it a hiccup, but you know, it really is a cross between the two. I never really thought about it that way.

I get this feeling like there is a sideways burp that can't come out.

I don't know why but for some weird reason I think the sneezing is cute. I can now smell fast food a few blocks away in my car and I used to have a very weak sense of smell. I'm drawn to the smell of regular food (well food I cannot eat) but I become overwhelmed like it's just too much for me and my eyes dilate or something I feel something weird happening with them and I have to walk away from it fast.

I like the little symphony of gurgles and noises my stomach makes after drinking fluids. It goes on for quite a while - like air bubbles are rising to the top of a container...

When I am in Colorado (altitudes over 6,000') I wretch if I eat anything starchy. It's odd. I don't have this problem when I'm closer to sea level. It's happened twice, so I'm now very conscious of it. I don't know if its my diaphragm working harder to get air in but it is very real. Feel free to validate my experience flat landers ;-)

And, NO I wasn't smoking anything ;-)

I feel kind of bummed! I don't have any cute sneezes or hiccups or burps or anything like that to tell me I'm done eating. All I get is this feeling that is a little tight between my breasts. Sometimes my tongue feels like it's drawing back and that's it. I also get the cold all the time which is AWESOME because I used to be so hot and sweaty all the time and now I can wear all my cute sweaters and mittens and scarves and it's mostly fine. LOL

Perhaps herein lies the problem. Please repeat the test with the proper Colorado medication and report back. All in the name of science of course.

I am all in favor of the recreational legalization -- No Carbs, No Calories. Once America's women figure this out it will be the law of the land. (Women always get what they want, eventually, I make this statement after working professionally in politics for 30 years). I made sure a friend who is suffering from breast cancer got some and it has proven to be very helpful stuff.

I am in New Mexico right now. We are at 7,000 feet. I am visiting for 6 days keeping the Grandkids. I have had issues eating a lot of thing that I normally don't have issues with. I seriously think it is the altitude. I have no other explanations. I typically have no issues when I am at home.

i live in Colorado at about 6500 ft and I've never noticed a problem, but I haven't been down from our altitude to see what it's like closer to sea level. I have great restriction all the time though. I couldn't overeat if my life depended on it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
