Considering a lap band. Oh and hi!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

35 year old guy from melbourne in Australia here. Have a serious weight problem and am given to binge eating. Have dieted off and on all my life, I can lose weight but then it all comes back with a 10% bonus.

Am considering getting a lap band, as i am now over 150Kg and at 5 foot 8 that is a little scary for me. I think a lap band would help me control the binging by forcing me to recognise when i am doing it, and then slow me down.

I am worried about a few things though. One is that I guess I am binge eating as a way of dealing with depression or stress. I dont know what would happen if that option was taken away from me.

Secondly, I have off and on been a professional wrestler as a bit of a hobby, and am wondering whether I would still be able to do that with a lap band inside me.

Are there any other aussie lap banders out there?

thanks,

raph

Jachut is an Aussie and she has done great1

I wouldn't see how wrestling would affect the band, but that would be something to discuss with your surgeon.

The binge eating........ well.. the band doesn't fix your head.. we are all emotional eaters but binging is a different more complex issue, one that would be taken up with a professional.

That said, it is the best thing I've ever done for myself!

GOOD LUCK

with the wrestling, its very very high impact. Just concerned about anything not bolted on inside me. certainly it will be a question for the doctors once i get to the point of seeing some.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
