Family functions post op

Well this California Italian girl tries to get Soup or meatballs. And fools with her food... And no one seems to notice if i don't make a big deal of special food.

Sorry to mention that eating is not half the fun, exciting, entertaining, hours of eating and drinking it previously was. Yet my body thanks me daily for being healthy.

Sigh ... I guess I just can't have it all..... Literally!

Hi Julie I'm Italian from California too. I just moved in SoCal 12 yrs ago. I still cook all the Italian meals for my kids and husband, it's very hard to work so hard and then can't eat. But I finally eat 2 slices of homemade pizza tonight/ I don't enjoy food like before ????

As a person from an Italian family, I do not agree with any of the other people so far. I only agree with you -- liquid diet only and tell everyone you are on a full liquid diet. Your best bet is to eat NOTHING AT ALL bc those Italian food pushers are very persuasive....they will be telling you that you can have anything "soft"....cannoli filling, cheesecake, and other kinds of yummies. I was a victim of a similar situation after I had my lapband surgery and succumbed to eating something that I shouldn't have and spent 45 minutes vomiting my guts up. Then everyone speculated that I had an eating disorder :-) Yeah, 110 lbs overweight and I don't eat---THAT'S A GOOD ONE! Point is, better safe than sorry.

FYI, I, too, am not telling most. Very judgmental family and friends. Have only told husband and one friend.

I live in NYC in the winter and am in NJ (Long Branch) in the summer. I have my last appt with my surgeon tomorrow and then submission to my insurance so hoping to have a date in the next few weeks.

Good luck!

@@jthenry -- yes, bring a shake or have it before you arrive--its the only way :-) feeling everyone's pain in this regard. I have many functions coming up this summer and I am going to be fresh out of surgery so it seems we will all be in the same boat. Great that we have such a great support system!

I plan on bringing shakes and using the liquid diet excuse it's a fad right now anyway. So many people are on this Protein shake cleanse diets. I just got my surgery date and it looks like I'm in for April 28th I'm so excited. 2 weeks after my surgery I am the chaperone for my sons kindergarten class trip to the local zoo. If I seam off or tired while there to the other moms etc I planning on saying I just a hernial repair. Lol idk I'm still in the air with the surgery excuse I'm going to use but I know chances are I'm going to have to say something about having a surgery it just won't be the whole truth again lol. Good luck!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
