Protein supplements with dairy intolerance

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled to be sleeved May 17 but am doing research now on different Protein supplements. I am dairy intolerant and have to follow a low FODMAP diet, meaning nothing with pea protein or xylitol sweetener or inulin (type of fiber). Of this whole procedure finding a good protein source is my biggest concern!

Pretty much every protein supplement I've seen out there has some type of whey in it and the vegetarian ones have something else I can't have. At this point until I can eat meat again I may just have to put up with the side effects of they whey powder (severe constipation) because that would be better than the other ones! Does anyone have any advice on supplements that don't have whey?

The kind I have is made from whey but is lactose free. It has soy lecithin in it. It uses sucralose and stevie as sweetners. I don't know about FODMAP diets, so not sure if those are against it. If those sound okay I can give you more info.

Also google says this one is whey free, but has sunflower lecithin.

I too am lactose intolerant, some whey isolates I have no problem with, while other make me sick as a dog. Max Muscle's gourmet Protein I can handle. I have also been using the J.D. Robb's egg white protein, the chocolate is really good I just bought the vanilla this weekend.

You are right to look into this beforehand. I did not realize the degree of my food allergies and it has definitely made things challenging. Having a hard time finding Protein powders that are tolerable and at 2 mos post surgery getting the stink eye for not consuming enough Protein.< /p>

I found Garden of Life protein powders to work for me. Organic, gluten free, dairy free soy free.

Good luck to you and let us know what you find

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
