I am still preop but my NUT mentioned its common for some after surgery. She recommended adding lemon or lime, changing Water temp, crystal light flavoring, or trying slower sips.

Good luck

I didn't have this problem but someone in my support group does. He has to add crystal light to all his Water to drink it. I believe he also has to have it really cold.

I am almost two years post op and still get nauseated from plain Water. I have always had to add flavor drops to my water and/or drink flavored water, like propel or Vitamin water. Also, you can different temperatures of water. Some people do better with ice cold or some like warmer water.

@@nervousnelly719 Life at almost two years post op is good. No complaints that's for sure!! It's amazing how this surgery can change our lives. I feel like I am free and able to do so much more than before.

You hang in there; early post op is a challenge. Just remember it gets easier!! Good luck

I think this is fairly common. Plain Water was the hardest thing for me to drink after surgery.

Try different temperatures (room temperature, ice cold, etc.). I also had better luck with adding water enhancers (like crystal light or Mio drops). You might also want to try Decaf tea or herb infusions either hot or iced.

It does get better.

I can't do Water either! Before surgery I could handle it, with no problems. Now it has to be hot with Crystal light or mio drops.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
