Young and ready to change

Recommended Posts

I'm going through preop with dr. Podkemeni here in arizona. So far the program, staff, and surgeons all seem amazing. I'm very nervous but also very excited to be making this life change. I'm only 24 but have been obese my whole life and most recently labeled as super morbidly obese. I know it's time for a change I just hope I can do it and stick to it for life!

Congratulations on making the extremely hard decision to finally take a stand and make yourself healthier! I'm in the same boat as you except I'm 21 (: got sleeved on the 9th of March after a year or so in the pre op program, and feeling great! Good luck on your journey!!

You are both so lucky to have this opportunity for change at such a young age!! Congratulations.

My thought, is the earlier you change bad habits the more likely it is to become a wonderful, healthy new lifestyle. So I think you will have great success, best of luck!

I had my surgery at 35 and SO wish I would have done it when I was younger. Good for you for taking this step when you still have your whole life ahead of you. Very exciting! Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
