Exercise Challenge! Go for the Gold!

Recommended Posts

HI all,

I had a good weekend... my weight seems to be bouncing between 164 and 165... maybe the additional training?? anyhow I am really not focused so much on the weight as I am on the running. My long run on Saturday was a bit tough, but I did it. I ran 13 km in 1h 31 minutes... so I was pretty happy with that. Next week I reduce my distance and do 10 km for my long run and then build again the week after.

have a good week everyone!!!

Hi all, It's been a crazy, busy couple of weeks....................haven't worn my BB for over a week (it's that bad!). I have not weighed for over a week (it's that bad)...................was going in for a fill last week, but had an emergency septic sytem (plumbing) problem and had to wait around for the fixit guy and so that was that with the fill................have another appt on the 6th of Sept - such a busy life I lead (having fun)...........my friend from Martha's Vineyard is visiting all us girlies who visited her last summer and we're having too much fun to worry about food, exercise, etc......................I think I just needed a week/ or two off! Hopefully, I didn't get too far astray (lucky the band keeps me mostly sane)!

Back to you all when things settle down.

Just realized I have not updated my challenge days - it's not as bad as it looks......................I still have been going to the gym and walking - just not sure how many times - ah well, September is almost here!

Oh Betty, I almost called you yesterday because I was worried. I completely understand your frustration. Everytime that I am on the cusp of dropping below 159, the evil scale will register a 2 pound gain the next morning. Even patience is not serving me well! Yesterday I only drank two cups of milk and I GAINED!!?? How is that possible?

The good news is that with the leg pain, I still got out and ran. It has not been enjoyable the last few nights, but I did it. See how this group has helped me? I want to lay down, feel sorry for myself and eat ice cream. But the commitment to you ladies drives me onward!

My times have dropped to 9:45/mile. Experience has shown me that with persistent work, stamina, strength and speed will improve quickly. With that, I am back in training mode!!!

Hey Eficka, your trip sounds wonderful! I'm glad you are back!

Hello Boo,I think we are addicted to scales my doc and my trainer told me not to weight more than once a week:-) cause during the day the weight changes...

Try to measure yourself instead:-)

After eating over during my trip to London I have been a good girl today:-)

Betty, I haven't been wearing my bugg either -- I'm quite sick of it, actually. All I want to do is run my marathon and have my thigh lift. I kind of feel like with those 2 things, I'm at goal, whether I ever see the 130s or not. I guess I just have a bad attitude this week....

Eficka, glad you has such a good vacation and glad someone else other than me had skittles for once (wink).

Boo, congratulations for running through your leg pain -- 9:45 WOW! Once I get through this marathon, I'm going to do some speed training so I can at least run shorter distances at a faster pace....

Got in 22.5 min of rowing and 22.5 min of elliptical tonight. Nothing like doing the bare minimum to meet the challenge, is there....

Haha! All that talk of Skittles and I tried one the other day. I wanted to like it, but just didn't. Strangely, I'm sick of chocolate, too.

So,this is my complaint about weighing only once a week. If you happen to weigh on a really bad/off day, it could ruin you for a whole week! I feel like I have to be accountable if I weigh every morning. But your trainer makes a good point that I'm ignoring. Weight does fluctuate. Why does mine stay pretty much the same (+/- 1 pound)?? My doctor has been weaning me off of thyroid medication over the past 9 months. This last drop has me really exhausted. That is really the biggest reason for the plateau, I fear.

My quickest mile was 9:00, so I'll be working to get back to that. My quickest mile EVER was 5:55 (in college).

Good night everyone! Get some good sleep and we'll start over tomorrow.

Now Julie, you are entitled to a bad mood now and then. Isn't it that time anyway? Your weight will drop again in a few days. And getting through a half-marathon AND a thigh lift are tremendous accomplishments.

Some of us may need to adjust our goals to focus less on weight (me).

I did a 3 mile speed session this morning. It was HARD! I'm such a better runner with long runs at a slow pace....Anyway, I did the first two miles at a 9:09 pace. Then the third mile, I was dying so I had to slow down. Overall, finished all 3 miles at a 9:37 pace. Not too bad....Lather, rinse, repeat on Thursday.

Boo, I can't BELIEVE you don't like skittles. You are not human (wink). next thing you'll tell us is you don't like babies or puppies. Haha. Seriously, GIVE ME YOUR SKITTLES then. Wait, no, don't give them to me.

I think I'm having a better food week. It's funny how this band works for me. I have very hungry "grazing" days -- several in a row -- then, just as I get scared and think I need a fill, I could care less about food for a couple of weeks in a row. I know I could look back and see that I've made that comment a zillion times. You'd think I'd learn. Anyway, even through the grazing, my weight stays constant, so maybe this is what life is like? Acckkkk!!

My weight is still bouncing between 164 and 165.. but hey let's be realistic it is bouncing in the 160's!!!

I hope you all have a good night!!

Yeah, my weight hasn't budged either, Dawn. I guess we're just at that point where the scale had us spoiled from month after month of 10+ lb loss, and now it's gotten realistic. I figure if I can lose 3 or 4 a month, I'll get to goal eventually....

I know this sounds crazy, but I ran at 11:30 P.M. tonight!! It was SO HOT today and was still 82 degrees when I ran. My running feels labored at this point, but, my first two miles were 9:10 each, then the third at 9:45. (I'm splitting my workouts now because of my leg) So we are all about paced the same.

Tomorrow I might try something really crazy and run in the afternoon in 105! Have you ever done that, DAWN?? haha!

And YES, I think SKITTLES are icky!! They are sticky and feel like I am swallowing sugary gum. Thank heavens! I don't need another vice!

Boo, I ran in 97 degree heat with 95% humidity when I was in AL a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't too bad as long as I stayed hydrated. I'm good with heat though -- bad with cold. Don't know why I live in what I affectionately call "Yankeeland."

Ahhh, sugary Gummy skittles -- YUUUUMMMMMMM. Wink.

Have yall ever seen the exercise clothes brand Lululemon? I'm addicted. The sport tank, deep V rocks my world. So pretty, yet supportive enough. Betty, you might like their stuff for your Nia class -- most of their things are designed for Yoga not for running....

Trainer tonight, 4 mile speed session tomorrow. Woohoo!

Hi Everyone,

Julie... I see you are now hooked on Lululemon too. Did you go to the store I recommended?? I love their running pants, socks and I found a sports bra that works... and you get the cutest bag when you buy stuff!!! YEAH.

Boo... I have run a few times in the heat (southern Ontario can get to be around 100 with high humidity in the summer- that's when I visit my family and am not in the Arcitc) but I hate it!!! I will take -35 with the windchill at -55 anytime!!! My last run was cool and windy and it was best time ever... go figure!!!

I am feeling good- even if the scale are stuck. But like you Julie I will get where I am going. I figure I have 7 lbs to go to the next goal and 17 to my final... so if it takes me a year then so be it. Right now I figure 2 lbs a month is good.

Ihope you all have a great day!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket. I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
