In May i will be 2 years out! I lost 90 pounds as of last February (2015) and was the same weight for about 6-7 months although i went down one pants size due to tightening i suppose. I have worked out since 3 weeks post op and never looked back, i am a workout junkie. As far as food i suppose i could do better but i stay within the calorie limits ive set on MFP. I also have a fitbit that syncs my exercise with it. I recently started gaining weight and cut my calorie limit down and upped my exercise . So for example, i started doing spin 3x a week and on those days my usual kickboxing that i do 5 days a week as well. Plus i walk a tonnnn! I know the rules of eating Protein etc. i stepped on the scale this morning and i gained 4 pounds this week wtfffff it was so discouraging!!! I see alot of ppl this far out eat 1000 cals a day but i can eat 1600-1900 bc i work out so much and i feel hungry but assuming everything is ok with the sleeve bc i dont need much. An egg still does the trick to hold me over for a couple of hours.... Please helps guys and gals, in freaking out over here:)

Congratulations on the weight loss and the perseverance!

You mention calories several times, but nowhere do I see you mention Protein.< /p>

What is your protein target? Are you reaching it every day? I don't see a problem reducing your calories as long as you aren't also reducing your protein (which I think is a big mistake).

Have you talked to your NUT about your goals and strategies for reaching those goals, especially now that you are exercising more?

Well, if you're working out a lot more recently, don't you think most (all?) of those four pounds gained are new muscle?

Sounds to me like you're beefing up (in a good way).

How are your clothes fitting these days -- same? Tighter? Looser?

I really dont know my Protein goal, unfortunately i dont have insurance anymore so i never actually

Knew what my

Protein goal daily should be. In MFP app tho i have targeted protein as my highest need , and honestly ive been successful thus far so i kind of feel like i know if im getting enough. Any idea how many grams a day i should be eating? Is that a general

Number or is it different for everyone??

As far as numbers on the scale, yes I have heard that muscle weighs more… But I can't imagine that I've put on 14 pounds of muscle, my clothes fit basically the same, but I am not anywhere near my goal, i have about 20-30 more id like to lose and while I am in it for the long-haul, seeing the numbers go up is very discouraging

Hi, it seems like most ladies at my post op diet class were given a Protein goal of 70-80 per day. Men were given a higher target. Hope that helps!!

My surgeon's protein guidelines were:

100 grams a day for all men, and anyone who started with a BMI of 50 or higher. Otherwise, it was 80 grams a day.

I have a question since being sleeved on 11/04/14. I have terrible pain in my sleeve when I try to eat.

This is not a everyday occurrence but when it does happen it's extremely painful. I've had tests and apparently everything is normal.

When I eat after two bites I start to get pains in my sleeve. The pain is so bad I sometimes have tears.

The last time it happen was the end of Jan. The episode lasted six weeks. I went through times of vomiting, pain, and of course depression set in. I stayed in bed majority of the time.

I've had this happen off and on a lot since my sleeve.

I googled and read about gall bladder attacks and the Pancreatitis. My symptoms fit both of these. But because the Upper GI and MRI show no problems my surgeon continues to but me on medication and my medical doctor put me on antidepressants. Plus my specialist for my fibromyalgia put me on antidepressants to control the pain for fibromyalgia and arthritis in my wrists, ankles, and knees.

I do not need nor want to take all these medications as even my fibromyalgia and arthritis isn't a everyday occurrence of being in pain. Only flare ups off and on about once every three months.

When I had the painful attack in Jan. I stopped taking all medications but my blood pressure, thyroid, and anti acid medications. What a big difference in my mood and I felt normal again. No more feeling like a zombie. I also could not remember doing tasks or having conversations with people. Someone would bring up an incident and I had no recall or I would message people and not remember doing it. All of my actions I blame on the medication.

Can a gall bladder or pancreatic act up off and on and not continuous?

When this pain comes it is when I'm trying to eat. I eat extremely slow, chew my food twenty times before swallowing. I do not drink liquids by gulping. I follow the rules of being sleeved. Actually I eat very little. Popsicles are no problem and small amounts of broth from Soup. I even started counseling. I know it is not in my head.

I have no regrets about my choice to go through with being sleeved.

I could have cried today when I took three bites of a baked potato with cheese and broccoli and the pain started again. I stopped eating immediately and now I'm scared to eat because I'm going to California for three weeks and do not want to be in this terrible pain.

Thank you for any assistance.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
