Did you feel restriction on Puree Stage?

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 17 today, and I've been convinced since I had surgery...that my surgeon left my stomach too big. She is an expert in our area and I didn't think to ask her (before surgery day) what bougie size she used. It turns out she uses a 40 and there was no reinforcing the staple line. she said she uses 40 because there is less chance of stricture. I was and am concerned, because I know the capacity increases down the road....and from what I read the bigger the bougie size...the more chance of regain.

Today was my first day of pureed food. I ate a little more than a quarter cup of pureed chili....ate it slow (over 30 minutes)...no problem! And I was still hungry. The nutritionist said I might not even be able to eat a couple of tablespoons! A little bit later I ate 1/4 cup of sugar free pudding...and then started to eat a little more....but got nasueas (from my Vitamins that I took right before)...and left it alone. So, I'm concerned that there wasn't more restriction.

Did you have restriction on the puree stage? How much did you eat at a meal?

I hope it's just because it's pureed food.

I did not have a puree stage, so I can not answer that, but I did not have restriction on liquids once the swelling goes down, and that varies from person to person.

I will say this. your stomach is smaller than it was. and so, even if she left it a smidge larger than another doctor might you alone will control what you put in it, and that will determine if you regain. you can do this!

You will likely find some foods "slide" for you and others do not. Once you move to solids and try to eat some meat, you will meet your restriction. Dense foods fill up fast. The other thing I remember is that some days I seemed to have never ending capacity and then bam!restriction. Follow the plan. Keep posting. Try to distract yourself from testing the limits of your sleeve. Instead focus on learning to stop eating when satisfied ;-)

Thank you! I will take your suggestions. I am so very grateful to have real food today, after 17 days of liquids...even if it looks like baby food! This is day one, so prayerfully it will get better every day. Have a great night! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
