Inches Vs Pounds

Recommended Posts

Personally I love it when I'm losing inches. I'll take anything I can get.

As long as you are losing inches you are making progress. I know for me one week I'll lose inches and the next week I lose pounds.

Sounds to me that things are working well!

If you're losing inches....WHO CARES? ;) You are fixated on a number, rather than the way your clothes fit. Which is more important?

I am in total agreement with Terri. I have fallen into that trap of working so hard and dropping 2 clothing sizes only to then go to the doctors for a weigh in (I don't own a scale) and being crushed by only losing a few lbs. It made me think the loss was all in my mind or something. I vow to not EVER buy a scale after I have this done! ! There are just too many things in my body that can be me measured by a scale besides fat!

hey texas mom,

i was getting obsessed with the scale and my eating patterns were starting to react to it.

so i threw them out and decided to measure myself once a month. this has really helped me to focus on eating right and exercising. i also started to journal my food.

i really have made progress since doing this....

like terri said..as long as the inches are coming off....thats the real deal

good luck

I've also learned to stay OFF the scale. Nothing is more frustrating. Right after the banding, I couldnt stop myself from stepping onto the scale every single day. Then I weaned down to a couples times a week, and now I've been doing it once a week. Today would have been my weekly weigh in, but I'm holding off now and trying to do it 2x month. Better yet, let the Doc weigh me at my visits! The best thing to trust is the way your clothes fit (mine are significantly looser), as well as the comments from family, friends, and coworkers. Those two things mean more to me than any old number on the scale ever could. Good Luck to us all..

Oh, not me! I am addicted to the scale but I don't stress over it....that's the difference! I actually weight twice/day....morning and night. I even went out and upgraded my scale recently! I just don't freak out when I have a 1-3# gain. I understand those are normal.

The fact that you're losing inches but not losing weight to me is a good sign. this shows me that you are eating the right amount of protien and are building up lean muscle, which weighs more than fat. Bandsters have to be careful about losing muscle. And the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn when you exercise. don't worry. Be happy.

Thanks for the help.... I've started riding bikes with my kids and I really enjoy it. The kids pointed out Saturday that we went for our ride and I didn't have to stop to rest. That was the best feeling!!

That's the better way to have it I imagine! This past month I did not get to weigh myself, but measured myself the day before my doc appt to see if I lost inches.. according to my chart, I haven't lost an inch since June 6.. but when I went to the doctor, I lost 8lbs. I'd have rather lost inches! LOL

I'm in the same boat. Over the past four months I have been very frustrated with my weight loss. My mind is geared towards pounds and that's what is recorded when I go to the doc for my followup appointments. Sometimes i have to make myself not weigh because it only frustrates me especially when that time of the month hits and the Water weight kicks in. My weight loss average over the past four months is one pound per week. Although that is like the minimum that my surgeon wants me to lose, to me that is not much considering all the changes I have made. I have been looking at this digit on the scale too long and it's time for a new one. But, I have lost a lot of inches and while the scale to me is barely moving, I can see the difference in the summer clothes that I just bought as recently as June. So i try to focus on that and not obsess with the scale. But it is VERY hard.

I'm not banded yet but from all the ups and downs that I've had over the years on the scale I focus on my clothing size now. I'm tall and it takes at nearly 20 pounds for me to go down a size. So when I've lost 10 pounds I'm still in the same size and that gets me really frustrated. Hope to see a size 14 by Christmas...Hope to have surgery later this mo.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
