Too much iron now constipated and nauseous

Recommended Posts

I made a mistake and took 2 Iron tabs, 65 mg each. My iron was really low, I could tell because my RLS was acting up big time. Anyway, dinner just sort of stuck in my tummy overnight, still feels like it's there, and I've become increasingly nauseous as well. I'm able to pass gas, so there isn't a permanent blockage or anything.

Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm sipping Water slowly this morning hoping things will naturally ease along. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm 2 weeks post op and until this moment was recovering really well.

Thanks!

Right after surgery, you will experience episodes of diarrhea or Constipation. It is normal and probably not attributed to taking an extra Iron pill. For constipation the important thing is to make sure you drink the daily requirements for liquids. When you lose weight, your body not only consumes fats but also releases into your body many elements such as hormones, chemicals stored in the fats and these must be flushed out of your system by fluids, especially filtered Water.

There are many ways to deal with constipation. There is an herbal tea called Smooth Move by Traditional Medicinals that can be found in many grocery stores such as Kroger's or health food stores.

I had Constipation so bad after my surgery I was forced to do an enema to get relief. Since then I have just added ground flex seeds to my food which has helped keep me pretty regular.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
