Band to Bypass Approved!

Recommended Posts

I had my lap band placed in 2008 and did really well, with it, until last November. I ended up in the er unable to keep anything down and waking up choking with reflux. Band was unfilled and, turns out, has slipped. I got my insurance approval, for revision, on Thursday and will be getting my surgery date on Monday! I'm so excited and scared! What advice can you guys give me???

Try to remember back to when you started losing weight after your initial banding. Many of these principles carry over to RNY.

One big issue you'll need to keep in mind is malabsorption. Proper Vitamin supplementation is important. I use optisource as it's a bariatric specific Vitamin, and a true Multivitamin (no need to take separate B12, Thiamin, etc).

Another thing to keep in mind is how much more sensitive your body will be to carbs. If you have a sweet tooth...get it under control ahead of time. lol

Congratulations! I started with the band too and made a pit stop with the sleeve. Having GB well what can I say I now know why they say it is the Cadillac of surgeries!

I have great restriction with GB I don't eat Pasta, rice or bread. I get full so easily on Protein and a little veggie and yes I can eat chicken! With the band I couldn't really eat anything; I call it my $16,000.00 souvenir!. I have no desire to eat sugar and I guess the fear of dumping also helps though I was never a sugar addict. I also have no issues with Vitamin intake, I thought that it would be a struggle but I have a routine in the mornings and take them everyday.

I wish you the best of luck and I know you will be successful!

That's great! Congratulations! I am in the same boat, finishing up my supervised diet right now for the insurance requirements then will be submitting to insurance for review. Hopefully I will get approval as well.

Excited for you, new beginning!

Thanks, so much, everyone!! I have a MAJOR sweet tooth which is one reason I chose bypass. I believe that the fear of dumping will be enough to keep me from sweets. Is it ANY amount of sugar that can cause dumping?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
