I'm new here. Hello to all! :) :)

I just had my first consultation appointment with the surgeon on Monday and have started the high Protein, low carb eating plan. I'm really struggling with it - I feel so hungry all of the time.

I'm not even absolutely sure which surgery type I am going to have. I have lots of questions so will be reading the forums a lot!

I'm type 2 diabetic, not on insulin, but I do take an injectable drug called Byetta twice a day with meals.

I feel like I don't know what to eat and wondered if anyone knows where I can go to get a printed diet that tells me exactly what to eat and when. I am keeping a food journal.

I have all of my pre-surgery appointments scheduled but I don't know my surgery date yet.

P.S. I have a headache.

Welcome! I'm sure you will get lots of helpful information in the forums! Have you met with a dietician? They would be able to work with you to come up with a specific food plan.

I have not met with a dietician yet.

I'm going to whine for a minute.

I'm on day three of no "white" food. Struggling a bit; I'm hungry. The food journaling helps. So far I've stayed under 900 calories per day. I have a headache. Someone said that getting to Ketosis will be easier after a few days. Struggling to drink the 90 ounces of Water.

Ok, done whining.

I had my Psych eval yesterday and was approved for surgery through them. Now the doctor's office can submit it to my insurance. Then I guess we wait. In the meantime, I have all of the other appointments to go to: Cardiology, Pulmonary, Endoscopy, blood work.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
