Help! I've got a cold and 6 days away from surgery!

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty nervous. I've had this stubborn cold that won't go away! I got my blood drawn yesterday and waiting to hear back about my white blood cell count. I'm just scared they will have to reschedule my surgery. Anybody been in the same boat I'm in right now? The hard part is I can't even take advil, or Vitamins. Tyenol barely works :(

A pharmacist clued me in to Cold-Eeze. He said take that or zinc supplements. It worked and cut that cold short by several days.

I came down with a bad cold 5 days before my surgery. I called the doctor and let him know. He was all, "So? Unless you're running a fever or have an infection, the surgery is on."

He also said I could take Vitamin C and any cold remedy that doesn't include NSAIDs.

I was afraid the anesthesiologist would nix everything when I confessed I couldn't breathe through my nose at all just prior to surgery. He said, "You will after."

And he was right! (That oxygen will dry you right up.)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
