WLS Orientation: The Journey Begins!

Recommended Posts

Quick update: I had my psych eval today and was told by the doctor that I'd be cleared. I stood on the scale again and I'm now only 4 lbs away from goal. The only thing left now is my EKG and final review by my surgeon prior to getting a surgery date. I'm only hoping the date works out in terms of scheduling time off from work, logistics, etc.

One day at a time...

Thats awesome news!

Update: You know, it really helps having this forum not only for support, but for personal accountability as well. Right now, I'm sitting in a Kaiser waiting room waiting to be called in for my EKG/ECG. This is literally the last formal pre-op hoop for me to jump through prior to getting scheduled for surgery. If all goes well with this appointment, the doctor will then review my file before giving the green light for me to be scheduled. I'm already so nervous about that. As much as we plan and think of the future, the idea of actually being scheduled scares the crap out of me! Courage is taking action in spite of fear, so that's all I'm clinging to right now.

One step at a time...

You are doing so great! I'm right behind you, my psych appt is May 17th. After that I have the EKG and then hopefully I'll get a date.

Rough week: this past week has proved the concept of "when life gets in the way." Long story short, I'm in Napa, CA with a group. Napa aka Wine Country is completely filled with wine, champagne and lots of good food. To make matters worse, I stepped on the scale before leaving home this morning only to find myself with a gain of a couple of pounds (due to late night snacking and improperly timed meal with little exercise this past week). I want to hit the reset button right now so badly, but I have to get through the weekend. Ugh! This is truly challenging!!!

Take it one day, one meal at a time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
