I am still in pain since Monday. However it is subsiding each day. Stay on top of your pain medication. Don't be a hero. I learned my lesson last night. I thought I didn't need it since I felt pretty good. Then I woke up and I started crying. I'm a big titty baby though. Everyone's pain is different.

The early days are TOUGH! There is no way around it. There will be pain: both gas pain and incision site pain. Sipping will be a challenge. Eating will be a challenge. You just have to hang there and live one minute to the next. Sip, sip, sip, and walk, walk, walk as soon as you are able. I found that marching in place made sipping slightly easier for me. But it is going to be a rough couple of weeks here. I promise you will feel normal again eventually, but right now you just have to focus.

I was sleeved on the 15th and just came home today because of severe nausea. (Dry heaves on a bruised up tummy are not fun.) I find it easier to drink room temp Water than ice Water. Maybe that will help?

I felt so great the night of the surgery. I thought, "Hey, maybe I'll be one of those people who never has a problem!" Then next morning, blam! Everything went to hell. I had nausea. I pinched a nerve in my shoulder by trying to clutch my stomach while retching. Then something weird happened to my drain and blood, blood everywhere. Yesterday was pure hell.

Then this morning, all was right with the world. For some reason I am finding it easier to drink the water at home. Don't know why.

@@songsmith I am very sensitive to the taste and temperature of Water post-op, so I think it makes sense that your water at home is easier for you to drink. Probably has a different taste and temperature than what you were given at the hospital.

I just had surgery on Monday too. The nausea did a number on me. I'm trying not to take the pain meds as much because it makes me nauseous but woke up at 3 am with pain. I seriously doubt what I did to myself at times but have to believe it'll get better too. Hang in there!

nicky2221, walking does help. I have it on good authority. I didn't walk nearly as much as I should because I really took a turn for that one day. Are you feeling better today?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
