I am having such a hard time chewing! How can I chew something 20x. If the food is already soft and mushy?

i don't think you can

different foods take different amount of "chews" to disolve

any food, chicken, beef - chili, cheese etc

chew until it's mush, then don't chew the mush!!! :D

YEACH

great weight loss

keep up the good job

Chewing that much also has the benefit of making you eat slower. If it's chewed within an inch of it's life and you have only chewed 8 times, that's ok. Let it go down the hatch.

The other benefit to chewing thoroughly is that you can actually enjoy the taste of your food!

This is one of the things I have been paying attention to on My 600 Pound Life where I see myself reflected.

It is interesting to see everyone pre-op take huge bites of food before even chewing or swallowing what they already have in their mouth. No wonder the portion sizes and volume of food consumed is so massive.

Just to think about the difference between chewing a small bite 20-30 times versus taking 20-30 big bites of food is quite sobering.

i saw/watched my mom eat a sandwich the other day (she is a tiny person)

I am not a peeping grammy, but i couldn't help but observe

she was JUST about finished eating/chewing one bite of food

then she inhaled another bite

it was like if she didn't immediately take another bite quickly,

i was gonna take her plate away

i recognized myself eating/chewing just like i did in my past life :o

no longer - slow and easy wins the race

now i eat and chew carefully, slowly

enjoy/"savor" each bite

get and stay full for a longer time

BUT - once its mush - it's history!!!

"times they are a changing!"

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
