Calories Post Op

Recommended Posts

My nutritionist didn't give me a calorie goal, but I pushed hard to get up over 800 before I started exercising regularly and over 1100 once I really started doing intense exercise.

How did you do with hair loss with the higher calories than most? I'm pushing to get up to 800-900 a day. I'm 3 weeks out.

I didn't lose too much hair. Just from 3.5 months to about 5 months post-op. It wasn't noticeable to other people, but there was a lot of hair all over my bathroom! It started regrow in right away and I think maybe all the baby hairs sticking up all over might have been obvious to others, but no one said anything.

I can only get about 400 calories in. I wish I could get more. I'm getting 60-70 grams of protein(shakes) but can only eat 1/4 cup-1/2 of food at a time.

Not being able to eat at times is frustrating because I know I need calories. I have felt over stuffed and I don't want that feeling again, so I stop when I feel that little pain.

This is my biggest struggle

I'm 3 1/2 weeks out, and my nutritionist said the first few months normal intake will range from 500-800 calories. As long as you're following your doctor's guidelines, getting your Protein, seems like you're doing good to me!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
