Need Eating Advice from the Guru members!

This is a typical day of eating for me. What am I doing wrong or what could I be doing better?

I drink G2 all day long, probably 32 ounces per day. 90 calories (I cannot drink plain Water, makes me gag)

For Breakfast, I either eat 4 club crackers, or a piece of bacon or Cheerios with Fairlife milk and Truvia. I cannot tolerate eggs or oatmeal.< /p>

For lunch, I sometimes have Soup. Other times I have a few bites of chicken and vegetables.

I snack on nuts and Protein Bars or crackers.

I drink one 30 g Protein shake each afternoon.

For dinner, usually a few bites of meat and cheese. Last night I had one roasted chicken wing with no skin and one bite of pepperoni/mushroom pizza.

I drink G2 until bedtime. I take Crestor for high cholesterol and Zantac for heartburn.

On Fitness Pal, I rarely get over 800 calories. I'm 3 months out and I've lost 44 pounds. I've been at 156 for over a week. Not doing any regular exercise aside from having a full time job, a 12 year old son, husband and two dogs. I'm sad that my losing has slowed down so much. I was losing 2-3 pounds per week in the first few months.

I think I know what grazing is now and I believe that I am doing it. Like I just ate 2 crackers. In a few minutes I'll probably eat some nuts. A little later this morning I might eat part of a Protein Bar. I am drinking G2 in between these little Snacks. Is this wrong?

I am not a guru member yet in my opinion however you may be a bit high on carbs. Of course everyone has different views but I only get carbs from fruit, carb master milk, smart food light popcorn, or yogurt at this point. I eat about 650 calories a day and at least 60-80 Protein but I keep carbs at 30 or less on average. I am four months out and have lost 77lbs. I only eat bread type products maybe once a week or so. Just a thought. Good luck!

It is normal for weight loss to slow as you get closer to goal.

I was able to amp up losses by going low csrb. I would replace the Cereal, milk and crackers with more Protein and veggies.

Examples might be

Greek yogurt

Sandwich meat

Egg beater omelets with veggies

Low cal/low carb turkey or chicken sausages

I see lots of mention of calories and carbs but have no idea whether or not you are reaching your Protein target. Your calories seem low, but it really is relative to your Protein target.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the weight loss process. None of us lose at a constant or steady rate.

Are you following your program?

Are you tracking your food?

Are you getting in ALL of your protein and Fluid every day?

Are you eating protein first?

Are you eating slowly, taking small bites, and chewing thoroughly?

Are you taking your Vitamins and supplements as directed?

Are you exercising?

Not a guru yet either, just sleeved this week, but i agree - seems carby. I know everyone's plans are different but crackers, pizza and Cereal are a no go on mine.

Maybe try something else for breakfast. And then at night leave room for something filling yet light. Good luck.

I'd have a long hard look at the crackers - typically they don't have much nutritional value. With small capacity, every bite needs to be nutritionally sound.

It may also be that you aren't eating enough. Have a look at more nutritionally dense foods that stick with you longer - Greek yogurt for Breakfast is a great place to start.

What is your Protein intake at. That's the number that really matters here. 800 calories seems on the low side, but you aren't exercising so it might be okay? I know that I pushed hard to get up over 1000 calories a day ASAP, but I was working out pretty regularly by that point.

What's up with crackers and cereal? That CANNOT be sanctioned by your nutritionist at this point, can it? Have you tried flavoring your Water with Mio or Crystal Light? G2 is too much sugar. Or if G2 really is ALL you can drink, try diluting it with Water for a 50/50 mix?

I was instructed not to eat Soup after the liquid phases of my post-op diet, because it is low Protein and is essentially drinking your calories. I would suggest finding a high protein, solid food to have for lunch. tuna or chicken salad maybe? For my lunches I either have leftover meat from a previous dinner or cheese and turkey pepperoni or peanuts. I think you might want to steer clear of the cheese and peanuts though, since you are still losing. I didn't introduce those until I was in maintenance and needed more calorie-dense foods to stop losing weight.

It may also be that you aren't eating enough.

Experience tells me this will definitely slow down weight loss.

I think my philosophy has been that eating 4 crackers is better than not eating anything at all. If I can't get meat to go down and stay down, what is the point? At least crackers and nuts stay down.

I didn't grow up eating broccoli, cauliflower, Greek yogurt, oatmeal, etc...so why would I start eating that stuff now? It's bad enough that I can't stomach plain chicken, but if I tried to force down some broccoli....oh Lord!

I'm averaging about 50 grams of Protein per day. And I am getting in all of my fluids with G2 and shakes.

You didn't mention in your OP that you were having trouble keeping some types of foods down. It's a little worrying that you are still having regular issues with keeping foods down at 3 months post-op. Have you discussed that with your surgeon?

50 grams of Protein is about half of where you should be. You should be aiming for 100 grams a day.

One thing I noticed is that you drink a lot of G2.

There are some G2's that are extremely high in sugar.

There's only 2 or 3 of them that are 6 gm or less - the rest are 30+

I'd have a look - who knows, maybe you're accidently consuming the wrong one!

They all say "low sugar" or something to that effect but they actually aren't.

Time for a rethink! Having this surgery demands we do this & change learned BAD habits.

What got you [& us] to the knife was to solve a problem primarily caused by what we were putting in our mouth.

Was it not?

One must assume G2 is flavoured Water.

Water is fine & what our body needs plenty of....what added elements/flavours that Water [or any of our foods] has needs to be well scrutinized.

I didn't grow up eating healthy foods either. Everything in my house was processed and fried and the only "healthy" things were iceberg lettuce (covered in cheese and processed lunch meats) or green Beans or waxed Beans from a can. I have had to get creative and find things that I like that are better for me. It's not easy but it is doable.

Also an alternative to the G2 may be Vitamin Water zero. They are good and have no calories. They are sweetened by stevia leaf.

Every Wednesday the hospital where I had my surgery holds a life class for all sleeve and bypass patients to attend. The staff have actually had the surgery themselves so they are speaking 1st hand and know what we are going thru. I was told no Peanut Butter because the carbs are more than the Proteins. NO Protein bars from Walmart, no Atkins meals from Walmart, no peanuts but to eat almonds the 100 calorie packs and no breads. I had been going thru a stall for 4 weeks and when I took their advice I have lost 4lbs in a week. They definitively know what they are talking about. I buy the Greek Yoplait yogurt 100 calories and it comes in strawberry shortcake, peach, apple pie and it is wonderful! My stepdaughter made me a smoothie with one cup of greek Yoplait yogurt(strawberry cheesecake) we had froze some chopped up bananas and put them in the blender with some Protein Powder and little milk and it was awesome!!! Hope this helps.

      Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

        I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

        I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation.
