Hi everyone,

I've been gone for a long time due to the hurricanes here in Fla. Well, I'm back and have a question for you long timers. I've been banded for 8 months. I've lost 40 lbs! My first fill was in may and my 2nd fill was in July. I currently have 2.6cc's. I had been doing great loosing until about 8 weeks ago. Then I stopped. Since then I've gained and lost the same 2 lbs several times. Untill then, I had pretty good restriction. I would feel full quickly and if I didn't chew...I got stuck (although I never pb'd). I could eat everything (including bread and pizza) just chew, chew chew and of course only in small amounts. I started to be able to eat a little more especially at night and I could actually eat a few things in the morning (which I couldn't before). Then 1 week ago, I went out to dinner with dh. We had sushi (I ate about 4 pieces, carefully cut up and chewed) and a small salad). I guess I got a bad picece of sushi (but my hubby was perfectly fine). That night I got very ill. I was nauseas and very weak. I had a temp of 101 for about 10 hours. I never vomitted. I drank liquids for 2 days after that and am now eating regular foods again. Since then, I don't have ANY restriction. I can eat everything and I can eat fairly un chewed pieces! I stop myself (not my band)...and about 30 minutes after I eat, I get pain in my left chest and shoulder...IS THIS ANOTHER FORM OF RESTRICTION? Have I stretched my pouch? Do I have erosion? Am I just nuts? :laugh I think the thing I don't like about having a band is that I'm always worrying about it...

I'd like to know if anyone else has this....is this bad, or ok?

Thanks,

Marsha

Sounds to me like this would definitely be one for the doctor. We could speculate, but seriously, no one will know until you have an upper GI to check your band placement and see about your fill. It may be that the 40lbs gone has been enough to just loosen the band and you just need a fill. I'll cross my fingers for you!

Thanks Leatha. I forgot to say that I'm also having major acid reflux since the sushi incident. I called my fill doctor yesterday. She told me to come in for an unfill and an upper gi just to check everything out. I'm going to go after Thanksgiving. I'll let you all know what happens.

WHy are you waiting until after Thanksgiving? "major" acid Reflux as you put it, is not good for your band or your esophogus. Usually when a Dr. wants you to go in for an unfill it means NOW! I know there is no way that my doc would let me wait a week. Don't jeopardize your health or your band...if you continue to have the reflux..go in sooner. Please!

Well, I will actually have the fill removed today. But the upper gi will be done after thanksgiving. In the mean time, she has prescribed Nexium twice a day and my symptoms have improved greatly in just 1 day!

Thanks for your concern.

Marsha

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
