I am almost 3 weeks post-op lap band. Who am I? I have never taken drugs/speed before but I am assuming this is what it feels like. I can't sleep. I am wide awake and FULL of energy. I have a hard time falling asleep and when I do sleep it is only for a few hours. I can't sit still when I am awake. This is so not me. I googled insomnia and bariatric surgery and it said that I may be in ketosis. What I want to know is how do I make it go away because I feel out of control almost? My mind is racing at the speed of lighting. Has anyone else experienced this before after surgery?

Thanks!

Are you consuming any carbs/starch? Do you track your food on myfitnesspal or another site? If you're consuming less than 50-75 grams of carbs a day you could be in ketosis.

Not a bad thing for losing weight? Your body is turning on it's fat reserves for energy and can cause either anxiety or lethargy? When I was in ketosis(Atkins Diet) I slept fine and only lost energy after a long run or long tennis match.

@@2muchfun I do log my food in My Fitness Pal I am just looked back and I am eating on average 20-25 grams of carbs a day. Guess that is anxiety I was feeling. Last night was much better and today I feel good. Maybe just need to bump up the carb intake a tad. Thank you!!

I have hypothyroidism and my doc said she keep a close eye on it because eventually the current dose will be to high as I loose weight. To much thyroid medication possibly. Make sure your pcp checks your levels.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
