Day 1 (surgery 2/17/16)

Recommended Posts

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. At least that's what I keep telling myself. Ha! I should back up; my husband and I are both having WLS on Feb 17. I'm having GB and he's having SG. We have 2 boys aged 10 and 9 years.

To so that I am excited is not even in my vocabulary. But also to say that I am anxious, well that's very real.

I suffer from extreme anxiety and depression and fibromyalgia. All that to say, I'm nervous. I'm nervous about leaving my children. I'm nervous about my husband having his first ever surgery. I'm nervous about being able to not have sugar.

So, now that I have vomited at the mouth a bit...today it day 1.

I will be healthier.

I will be stronger.

I will be me.

Welcome to the start of the rest of your life! take it one day at a time- learn what work and what doesn't for your new digestive system. I can still eat sweets-- but fats/fried food make me feel no so hot. Nerves are normal-- it shows you are aware of the potential for good and bad t happen.

Since you and your hubby are doing it together-- how will you both get home from the hospital?

Good luck to the both of you. I am 6 days post op and not feeling bad. Day 2 I cried for my belly pain. Day 4 I cried for my severe Constipation. Day 5 I cried for my back ache. I am a crier so im not suprised. All in all, I feel ok. I'm following doctors orders and staying hydrated. I have ups and downs every day but I'm already glad I've done it. I'm down 25lbs from my preop diet which started January 15th. I can already fit into shoes that I've never worn and I just fit into the bra that was "too small". I was also worried and anxious. Be brave my sister. I just kept telling myself to be brave.

Good luck to both of you. Drink, drink, drink and remember IT DOES get easier every day, even though it may not seem like it in the beginning!

clardoss once I received my surgery date It made it real and I became a bundle of nerves.

I remember on the day of my surgery just before leaving home, I burst into tears. I had irrational thoughts like I was being selfish and I was concerned I was putting myself at risk for my family.

Well 3 weeks post op those fears have gone.

And as a former self proclaimed sugarholic, it's no longer an issue; apart from a tiny bit of head cravings, but for me they are easily pushed aside.

Good luck !! ????

How funny. I too burst into tears just before leaving the house the morning of surgery.

How wonderful! Congratulations.

My hubby was going to do it with me but ended up having 2 heart surgeries that held him back. I really wish he would have had the surgery shortly after because I swear he is gaining what I am losing. Even one of my doctors gave him a hard time on Monday because I look normal now which makes him look even bigger and the doctor is worried about him.

He has a difficult time sticking to a plan as he munches without even realizing what he is doing. I am very worried about his long term health.

I hope that everything goes well for both you and hubby and you are on the road to recovery. Don't get overwhelmed, take it one day at a time.

I have never regretted my decision to have bypass. I am less than 5 months from my goal and for the first time since I was 22, I have a normal BMI. I am 52. My grown boys tell me that they never remember me being this thin. That's because from the moment I had my 2nd child I started gaining weight like crazy.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
