I am seeing my surgeon for the first time tomorrow! I've been hanging right around 309 for the last 10 years and I am tired! My PCP gave me this referral so I'm hoping that helps me move right along with the process. The part that scares me the most is the insurance possibly saying no.....

Hi there! I'm in the beginning stages of the process too. I have my first class on Thursday. My surgeon sent out a packet of paperwork today. When I fill that out and fax it back in then they will schedule my consultation. I've already checked with my insurance (the surgeons office has also verified) and they will cover the surgery and they do not require any supervised diet or anything before besides proof from the surgeon that I'm morbidly obese. I'm hoping to have a surgery date in late March or early April!

Thank you :-)

I'm hopeful that Cigna will cover. I have heard both sides from different people so who knows....I can't find anything online about which plans accept and which ones don't

I googled it, it says that certain plans cover it. One lady at my work got the gastric bypass done And she was self pay. She said they wouldn't cover it, but I'm more inclined to think that she didn't want to go through the motions....so I am hoping I can get covered if I do everything to the letter.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
