I thought I over-did it at kickboxing last week but it's been 10 days and I still have a very tender spot just below my rib cage on my left side - almost straight down from my armpit - which Google tells me is where my spleen is located. The pain is not easing up, in fact I'd say it's getting more intense.

How long do I let this go? I have been racking my brain trying to remember is anything spleen related was listed as a side effect of RNY and I can't think of a thing.

I've been healthy - not a sniffle or a cold so it's not related to mono. I have been getting dizzy when I stand up so maybe anemia??

Anyone else experience this??

Google gallbladder pain/gallstones that is really common wth weight loss and located right in there also. And often gallbladder pain can refer elsewhere too--mine was primarily in my back when I had attacks.

A few questions:

  • Did you have any symptoms before kickboxing?
  • Were you struck on the left side during kickboxing?
  • Any problems eating a full meal?
  • Does the pain radiate to your left shoulder?
  • Is the pain worse when yo take a deep breath in?
  • Any easy bruising or fatigue?

Anemia would correlate if you had an enlarged spleen (or pathology) but not likely be the cause of an enlarged spleen.

Outside of that, have you also considered intercostal muscle strain? All of this, if concerning you, should be followed up with by your PCP.

I don't have my gallbladder anymore...so I don't think that's the issue.

I don't take any hits during my kickboxing circuit - it's strictly me against bags. We did a station involving planks and reaching, which I thought could have pulled something but you'd think that 10 days later, it'd be getting better and not worse by now.

I'm always tired, but having three active little boys and a gigantic puppy on top of working full time and fitting in 4 75 minute workouts a week means tired is just part of my life. Haven't noticed any more bruising. Of course, I googled and got scared by some of the reasons behind an enlarged/painful spleen.

It can be a scary issue and one that will frighten you worse if you research it to ad nauseum.

Muscle strains can get worse if you continue to exert the area and don't properly ice/care for it. Again, I'm not saying that's DEFINITELY what it is, but it's another thing to consider. It's all in how you feel. Nevertheless, a call into your PCP is never a bad thing.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
