What do you need post op?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to make a list of things I will need the first few weeks post op. What did you find you needed most?

This is a good question. I would also like to know what people suggest. The last thing I'm going to want to do is go to Walmart.< /p>

Stuff I used pretty much every day: kitchen scale, immersion blender, heating pad, Bubba Keg, soft cotton fasten-in-front leisure bra (you may end up with an incision right at your bra line -- a regular bra, particularly underwire, is NOT your friend at this time), variety of sugar free/savory drinks and Protein Powder and drink samples, SF popsicles and fudgesicles.

A recliner or comfortable place to sleep in a reclined position.

Comfortable clothes and some good walking shoes to burn up the road with.

Other than that, just a good supply of ready mix shakes.

On the pre op diet I was already finding I was experiencing muscle twitches ... I finally figured I might need a Powerade ZERO, I think it helped.

I just don't want to be nutrient deficient afterwards and something suffer. So this is a great question. I will have premade shakes in individual bottles, via Sam's, Premier Protein I think. I've spent the past 2 weeks making bone broth out of chicken and beef and lamb, strained. I mat thin it with Water. I need to ask all this again when I'm there.

I found a glass jug that said it was 67 ounces. Is that the mount we need to drink every day, the minimum? I kept it and cleaned it so I will know where I am in the Water department.

OH I also have the Bariatric Advantage Chew-able Vitamins. I think they taste like candy, I love them!

You guys are fantastic! Thank you!!

We are taking a trip soon and as soon as we get home I start my 3 week pre-op diet and then off to Mexico for my surgery so I want to ensure I have everything listed and am prepared for pre-op and post-op

Lip balm (I prefer Aquafor), eye drops, all of the Vitamins you will need in liquid or chewable form (with B12 as sublingual or nasal), a good source of potassium (I use Vega Rehydrator, but G2 has some too-the RDA is 4700 per day, and if I calculate what I would get on the average post-op diet, it is less than 1,000, which can be a problem for kidneys and muscles). A good Netflix binge watch for the first few days (or some good books or movies).

If you're looking for Premier Protein shakes, Redplum has a manufacturer's coupon for it online for $4 off the four-pack, if you buy it at Safeway/Vons. I prefer the chocolate flavored ones.

They don't double manufacturer coupons in SoCal, where I live, so mine came to about $4.99 each, but it was better than $8.99 each (before tax).

costco also sells 18 packs, but not sure of the price there. Amazon's are WAY too expensive.

Just a thought.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
