I live near Trenton in Robbinsville and plan to have surgery with dr. Dobruskin. My consultation date is in early March I cannot freaking wait for this appointment. I call every week to see if by any chance they have earlier openings. I feel like I'm in limbo I don't know if I should be dieting or if I should be having food funerals?!?!

@@nhawke - I know the feeling. I really feel the temptation for food funerals but I am still quite far from surgery time. (Not having WLS until May.) For me right now, the temptation for food funerals is just a clever cover for falling into bad, emotional eating habits.

@@gowalking - living as a "slender" person feels really far away. I've never been anything remotely close to slender - even as a kid. Thank you for the encouragement, though. Life in Edison gets hard sometimes but I trust that there is light at the end of this tunnel.

I know it's hard to imagine ever being slender when one is morbidly obese yet you can see in this before and after of me that it's possible.

@@gowalking - thank you for sharing those pictures. I'm trying to trust in the process as well as take the necessary steps to start on the journey. The surgeon said my goal weight should be 180 - half of my starting weight. I would love to get to 150 or 160, but anything less than where I started will be great. 180 is still overweight but it is so much better than where I am now.

Go walking, you are beautiful! Congrats on all that hard work, I am struggling with what life can or will be like not big? I feel like the emotional adjustment will be just as tough as the psychical one. Any pointers?

Thank you @sam1016. The best pointer I can give you is to work with a therapist if you feel like you are not handling things the way you had hoped. I did not recognize myself a year after my surgery. I saw a wrinkled, old woman staring back at me. I had lost at that point, about 90 lbs. I think and did not see the weight loss at all, but only the thinning hair, the hanging skin, and everything else in a negative way.

I saw the therapist for two years and just recently decided to try to deal with things on my own. But if I feel at any point that I need her help again, I'll be back in her office. I still will hold a pair of jeans up and think that I'll never fit into them even though I know I do. This is a wonderful journey but it has it's ups and downs for sure.

Some folks can eventually have their heads catch up to the changes that their bodies are going through but I could not and knew that I needed professional help. Don't hesitate to do the same if you feel the need.

Good luck sweetie and keep us posted on how you're doing, OK?

Hi! I'm from Edison, NJ. I'm having the band to sleeve revision with Dr. Abkin. I, too, would love a buddy to share this experience with. I say the more the merrier.

My office is right near MetroPark. I know Edison fairly well as my son and DIL lived there for many years before heading to PA.

Thanks gowalking! I'd love to join your support group if possible.

We're a tri-state support group...NY/NJ/CT but the most active group is the one from NYC and LI. It's currently where we meet most times though we do meet in the city sometimes as well. Here's the link to the thread so you can see posts and know when/where we are meeting.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
