Recommended Posts

Good afternoon to all. I have my psych eval & nutritionist appointment set up for Feb. 17th. I wanted to get some feed back and see what that is going to be like? Any pointers?

Thank you in advance!

The psych evaluation is so simple. Mine I went in during one of my scheduled visits. It was a man. I filled out a piece of paper with my demographics on it and info like parents/siblings smoker/drinker/psych etc

He asked me how confident I was to getting the surgery and was I absolutely sure about this. I told him my family history of weight issues and how I too yoyo all the time.

He asked what my fears in life are and if I have problems with nightmares or see a psychiatrist or psychologist now or ever. Asked if I had family support for this. Asked if I worked. Asked who I lived with.

That was pretty much it. Truthfully it was a total waste of time. Nothing to do with the surgery. Money maker for the insurance. Nothing to fear. Honest. It lasted about 35min. Then I went onto my visit with my NUT and PA.

My NUT just goes over how I'm doing and asks what my typical day is with choices of foods. Offers me better choices from what items I tell her and we together come up with much better ideas. She gives me suggestions and ideas and just goes down a check list. Then the PA comes in and goes over my medical stuff and tests with me. All in a days visit

I do know some people who go to their NUT also have to incorporate an exercise class. I don't have to do that. So maybe each place is different.

Good luck to you!

I have just been through my meeting with my nutritionist and my consultation with my psychologist following my evaluation. Getting the approval of the psychologist was my final hurdle to setting a date for surgery. The psych eval isn't bad, nor is the interview. I was open and honest. I have quite a history with depression and anxiety, but as long as I continue to see a psychologist and my psychiatrist on a regular basis and attend support groups from the clinic for a year after surgery, I was approved. My surgery is now scheduled for Feb. 15. I begin my all liquid diet Monday. I am thrilled! My advice is just go in and be yourself. You'll be fine!

I had my psych eval the first part of January, but we went out of town right afterwards so my consult and results were delayed by 3 weeks. That drove me nuts, but I had a good vacation so all was OK. It seemed like Jan 27 would never get here! But I felt so good yesterday when I got the results. The office set me right up with my surgery date of Feb. 15. I am so thrilled but nervous at the same time. I have tried the Protein Shakes and they are good. Didn't like the Latte too much. So far I haven't felt hungry. I don't start my liquid diet officially until Monday, but I am doing Protein shakes and Water most of the day with maybe one very small meal like Soup. I have not been hungry so far. You're going to do fine! Pretty soon your date will be set and you will be ready for your adventure to a new you. I wish you all te very best. I am here if you need to talk.

Will do! I start Monday with 4-5 Protein Shakes a day, going for 70 g. of Protein each day. Each of those is 8 oz. so that's 32-40 oz. of liquid. I am allso supposed to get some bariatric Soup, which can count toward protein and liquid totals. The remainder of the 64 oz. of flluids will come from Water. My nutritionist told me today I could also have up to 2 cups of milk (1% milk fat or less) a day. I plan on going to purchase all my supplies tomorrow. I also have to be on Iron, Calcium, B12, and D. I have tried the protein shakes, and they are actually very could with cold wate if you shake them up really well. My favorites are chocolate and strawberry, but banana and vanilla are good, too. I will let you know what I end up getting tomorrow. I was really surprised at how tasty the shakes were and how filling they were. I think that there is enough variety for me to make it through until surgery. If I were you, I would buy a sampler of protein shakes just so you can figure out what flavors you like. I did that and it has helped me feel more prepared. Talk to you tomorrow!

I had my psych eval on Monday and it was very simple. He asked me about me and my immediate family's weight and general and mental health history, and about my childhood. He made sure I understood all of the nutrition information regard pre-op and post-op... talked to me about support groups... etc. I was completely honest with him about everything, including my bouts of self-diagnosed depression and binge eating. He encouraged me to continue seeing a psychologist but he gave me the clear for surgery.

My 6th and final nutrition visit is scheduled February 18th. They just weigh me, and talk about how I did that month then we come up with goals to follow for the next month. I would advise you to be very honest and realistic with yourself regarding these.

Good luck :)

I went to the doctor's office today to pick up my supplies for my pre op liquid diet. I was called into my case manager's office and she informed me that the doctor scheduled to perform my surgery on February 15 was no longer with the practice as of 5:00 yesterday. So I now have another doctor performing the surgery on the same day. I had a chance to meet him today and I really liked him. My pre op visit will now be Feb. 5 rather than Feb. 9. I am so relieved that the surgery date remained the same. That date was kind of stuck in my head. After meeting the doctor, I purchased my supplies. I cant believe I begin my liquid diet on Monday.! I am just glad everything worked out OK.

Im very happy for you and that you liked your new surgeon that makes it soo much better. Please keep me posted on your liquid diet! As for me, my insurance did not require any time of being on any diet other than the pre op liqui diet. I wonder how many times I will have to see the NUT? Im hoping its a one time thing. I am ready to get this done! lolol

The pre op diet so far is great and pretty easy. I am following a pretty strict schedule so that I can keep track of what I need to "eat" and when. There's a lot to keep track of. I can tell you i have not been at all hungry. Even got in 1 1/2 hours of exercise. I think we can do this.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
