Lap band removal recovery? Regarding Lifting restrictions

Recommended Posts

I have already read posts on here regarding the recovery after lap band removal, but I am wondering if there are lifting restrictions?

I have a 1 1/2 year old that weighs about 28 pds and my husband can only take 1 day off work this time ????

I am hoping to get it removed soon but I also hope it doesn't put me down for any longer than a couple days as far as lifting .. I can keep it minimal since he is walking but I will still have to lift him off the couch when he climbs up and tries jumping off lol and other instances when he does all the fun toddler stuff ????

That's got to be a physician decision and it would depend on how much trauma the band caused or causes as it's removed. If there's no large incisions or damage done to the stomach or esophagus I would imagine 28 lbs should be fine?

Having the surgery Thursday, can anyone else tell me about the recovery? My husband has 4 days off, I hope I recover by then and can lift my son with no problems and I just want to hear that it's a quick recovery and not too much pain, etc.

I had the LB removal surgery Friday and I was told I could lift up to 30 lbs. Thank goodness, because my 2 year old wants to be carried constantly and needs help with the potty and stuff like that. My husband was only able to take off Friday (he was home this weekend but had to do car repairs so I was basically by myself today.) and I did ok. I think I'll be well enough by tomorrow to resume some of my daily chores but I'm doing freezer meals and saving heavy lifting for when he is home. I'm only on regular Tylenol now during the day, but I have been taking half of my Percocet dose at bedtime so I can rest.

Thank you for the response MKjohnson ????

I feel a lot better now knowing that, when I will have to start lifting my son today.

I don't know your situation, but Good Luck to you ????

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
