Scott Saehun Um, MD @ Kaiser West LA - thoughts? experiences?

Recommended Posts

Hey team, i just graduated the options program a week ago today and i have my surgical consult with Dr. Um on 2/1/2016 and i can't find much about him. Everything i have found is awesome, but there just isn't a whole lot, it has me kind of underwhelmed. my roommate had a consult with him before and she said he was nice and knowledgeable, but he turned her down as she had too low of a BMI with no co-morbidity so she doesn't have much nice to say about him haha.

Anyways, i guess what i am asking is this: Have you had any experience with Dr. Um? How did your surgery turn out? Are you happy with your level of care provided? Any complications? Any words of wisdom going in? did he have you do a liquid diet prior to surgery? how long? really anything will help me at this point.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, I completed the options class in December, at Woodland Hills. I have my pre-op visit in the first of February, and my surgery on the sixteenth, at West LA. My surgeon is Dr. Kim. I had the same issues you did, not alot of info on their surgeons, although I have talked to several people that had their surgery there, and they all had nothing but good things to say. I wish I could give you more info, but that is all I got.

My sleeve was the 26th of Jan with Dr Kim husband and I both really liked him very personable. Surgery went well care was excellent and recovery going well no pain since leaving hospital

Okay, sorry I haven't posted. I haven't been on as of late. Surgery was on 2/10/2016. It went great and I am back to work as of 5 weeks ago. My company has a great short term disability program so I was able to take 4 weeks off with no problem. I am eating around 800-1000 calories a day and have been feeling great. I go on walks with some of the girls from the options class on Thursdays and go to the gym with a friend of mine other days of the week. How are all of you doing?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
