Lap band - heartburn

Recommended Posts

So I had my lap and emptied last Thursday and no heartburn since... Haven't even had to take meds... Coincidence? I think not!

My surgeon actually didn't think it was the cause of my heartburn because I didn't have much in my band but I think it is because I didn't change anything in my routine.

That you've had no heartburn since suggests that your band certainly was too tight. A band can be too tight regardless of the amount of saline. It's different for everyone. I'm surprised, though, that it was emptied completely, unless you were experiencing stiff heartburn or GERD.

Best wishes.

I experienced bad acid reflux when my band was fill and unfilled.I had revision to bypass. No reflux ,no sliming,no vomiting up.

I haven't had to take heartburn medicine since I had my band emptied. Even with empty band I still can't eat certain things, it's weird.

I am almost half way through my 3 month diet, psych eval coming up in couple weeks, not sure what to expect ...

When are you scheduled for surgery?

I am not scheduled yet. We haven't even submitted to insurance yet, until I finish my 3 month diet and psych eval

Bummer, just called insurance to get status. They did receive paperwork but they do have 30 days to review, so they are still reviewing. Good thing my surgeons office told me to go ahead and schedule nutrition class and pulmonologist appt already which are pre op clearances, and earliest they had was April 19.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
