The post op return to work

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Tuesday and could have gone back to work the next Monday or Tuesday if I had to but was off the week for thanksgiving.

I will be going back on Monday, which will be my 10th postop day. I'm sure I'll be able to manage, as I could have gone back already if I needed to. My only issue is quick bathroom trips from the antibiotic I'm still on. Everyone is different so you'll have to see how you do. Best results will come from following all of your instructions. Walk, walk, walk, drink, drink, drink, follow your food plan and Celebrate your new life!

I took off three weeks. I am a middle school teacher so I worried about leaving my student for so long. After I went back I struggled for weeks and missed multiple days each week due to terrible fatigue or dehydration. I think it really depends on the physical demands of your job.

I took three weeks. I could have gone back after two weeks, but I feel that third week was important for me. I struggled with panic attacks after surgery and I didn't feel like myself emotionally until week three.

I was off of restriction after two weeks and back to work 3 days after that. So, back to full duty 2 1/2 wks.

I took off a week. Surgery was on a Tuesday and I went back on a Tuesday. Could have used and extra day but it definitely was not traumatic and it got me feeling back to normal.

I had my surgery on the 12th. I am taking 3 weeks so that I can continue to adjust to my new way of eating. For me I am taking the extra week to focus on me. Learning how to put be first even though I am an empty nester and single now, it's a matter of breaking old habits and learning new ones and developing the "me" first attitude.

I'm taking one week. Surgery scheduled for Monday 2/1 and going back on Monday 2/8. Luckily I'm scheduled off that following Friday already and the next Monday, is a State holiday so I'm off which makes the weekend of my return a long 4 day weekend. Hopefully that all helps with the transition back to work.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
